I have had many DIPA's and nothing is as good as Abrasive Ale is. Amazing beer!

Also a homer and I certainly love all Surly. I order Furious on tap a lot, as usually it's the best thing the bar / restaurant has. For IPAs I buy regularly, it's a drive across the St. Croix for Racer 5 and Finest Kind. I buy Abrasive when it's out and occasionally buy Furious for home consumption.

I think it's one of those "grass is always greener" situations.

I'm a homer and outside of Abrasive, I think Surly is one of the most over-rated breweries in the country. Furious turned me into a craft beer nerd in '06 and is a malty mess now (that smells great!), and I'm convinced something's up with the recipe, but whatever, I won't re-open that debate. Otherwise what do they have? A seasonal helles, bitter, rauchbier, mild, oktoberfest?? Really?? Who cares? This stuff sits on shelves up here for months -- who drinks these styles? A mediocre sour anniversary beer? An imperial stout that I honestly think Old Rasputin is better than (hoppy imp stout) - but they took a page from FFF's playbook and built a day around so it gets lots of hype. Never made a beer with an ABV > 10% -- no bwine, no porters, nothing really barrel aged, a BA Old Ale (Syx that is untested but coming soon, so we'll see...). Otherwise they've got a brown ale that's ok, a coffee brown ale, a saison and a malty IPA as their regular rotation. Wow. The midwest lacks solid year round IPA and IIPA offerings (outside of Myrcenary!!), in my opinion. Again, Abrasive is great. But let's be a little bit real here...

    Shit away...

Abrasive is very good, top fifteen material for sure. Furious is probably the best beer I've had to date though.

I am a homer as well, but Abrasive is hands down one of the best DIPAs I have ever tasted, and well worth the price. It's one of those beers that as soon as the can is opened, the burst of hop aroma puts me in a happy place.

one of my favorite DIPAs ever.

the brewery as a whole is one of the very few where i actually enjoy every beer i've had by them.

Love Abrasive and Furious...the darkhorse of their lineup, for me, is Coffee Bender. Just don't call me Surly...

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Wet. I think that's one of the best fresh hopped beers out there, and while there is some variance year to year (no surprise there) it's always better than any others I've had.

As far as DIPAs go though, I've got to give the nod to Heady. I lucked out on a Vermont trip and had cans that were literally hours old. That was pure beer Nirvana.

hmm.. you're right. New Glarus blows, too.

who cares about perfectly made drinkable beers with flavor. bring on the messy one-off ABV bombs. :+1:
