    Hi all,

As I get more into beer I have been looking for better stores in the area to go to instead of just the local shop with the usual stuff five minutes away. I know of places like liquor outlet in Boonton and Gary's in Wayne. But is there anything else in the North Jersey area that has good stuff?

    Thanks

The following all have a decent selection - these are all Bergen-area stores

    Total Wine in River Edge
    Bottle King in Glen Rock
Cable Beverages in Bardonia (near Nyack)

Ive gone to total wine but not cable or that specific bottle king. I will have to check those out.
    thanks!

If you're up to it, try Whole Foods on Houston in NYC(LES).

There is also a good selection at Whole Foods in Paramus.

Last time I went there a couple weeks ago it was gone. About third of the normal size now

That's too bad. Thanks for the tip or I would've been in for a big disappointment.

I must have not been to thw WF in Paramus in a while but I juest went back this past week and thought the selection was pretty good, I remember the old set-up befor they had the whole wine section next to it, seemed like a good size and selection to me, was there an intermediate set-up they they removed?

Nice selection with the worst profiteering in the whole state.

I'll go county by county for my top 3 for each

    Bergen:
    Ramsey Liquors
    Bottle King Glen Rock
    Total Wine Riveredge

    (but seriously, Cable beverage)

    Passaic:
    Gary's Wayne
    Bottle King Wayne
    Wine and Beverage Depot Totowa

    Morris:

    Liquor Outlet Boonton
    Bottle King Morris Plains
    Gary's Madison

    Union:
    Wine Library Springfield
Super Buy Rite North Plainfield (I know it's not Union county, but it's close enough and awesome)
    Shop Rite Westfield

    Essex:
    Bottle King Livingston
    Shop Rite Caldwell
    Total Wine West Orange

I don't shop much in Warren or Sussex but I've had a decent experience at Valley Liquors in Hackettstown and Shop Rite in Franklin.

Heights Beer & Wine Emporium in Hasbrouck Heights has a solid selection and good prices. As per WF Paramus, it's definitely more concise now, but at least all their beers are refrigerated.

I also think they hired some new beer dudes, not as friendly/knowledgeable as the ones that were there before.

While there may be less of the warm stuff they now have more cold cases so that's a win in my book. I wouldn't give up on them completely

Thanks- I'll keep it in mind. I'm just rarely over that way, and I would usually hit up WF specifically for the beer section. I can see myself making a trip to Lowes in the upcoming weeks, though, so I might just check it out just to see what they got rid of and what they kept.

(topping an old thread to ask this question...)

I have to drive out route 4 to 208 to go to Wyckoff tonight. Is there anywhere other than the Total Wine at Riveredge or the WF that is on or slightly out of the way that I could grab some stuff not in NYC, like Carton?

Joe Canal's on Rt 46 Parsippany

Midtown Wine Merchants in Morristown. It's small but he's got a nice selection.

Supposedly Whole Foods gets Carton every now and then, so it doesn't hurt to call. I don't know of any other place up here that does.

I just saw Neshimany Creek County Line IPA cans at Total Wine the other day (but can't vouch for their freshness, unfortunately) if you are interested in that.
