I get the ZD question probably thirty times a day. We get a case or two per week.

What kind of logic is this? If Zombie Dust was labeled an American Wild it would be the same beer and would be just as enjoyable.

I think MOST (intelligent) consumers know it's all about the flavor of the beer.

Zombie Dust will be on tap during craft beer week. Don't remember which day/ place, but there's your opportunity.

A lot of it is about managing expectations.

Yeah, I strongly disagree. Heck, I don't think most people who go ape shit for Zombie Dust would even be able to tell you whether it's marketed as an APA vs. IPA.

I drink a lot of beer and I didn't know it was the sixth best beer. I'm not one for ratings nor rankings, and I try to avoid being caught up in hype. Not a personal attack, but people seem to take beer too seriously.

I would love to think we are getting smarter but it is going to take a lot more for me to believe it, still way too many threads out there that make me believe otherwise.

For me, I enjoy FFF beer but their business practices still puzzle me. I find more comfort in having readily available beers the can satisfy my ZD desires. I believe Pseudo Sue is actually a superior beer, just need a solid trading partner for that. Odd Side CPA may not be quite as good but it stands on its own merits and it certainly scratches my Citra itch. I am less likely to complain when I have viable replacements.

Well, I'm not sure what the APA vs. IPA thing has to do with the ranking, but thanks for the lame dismissive tone.

One pervading annoying thing about this board is that people seem to think the majority of beer buyers are as geeked out about beer as the posters here. It just isn't the case. I presume the vast majority of people who buy Zombie Dust aren't thinking about the APA vs. IPA distinction when making the purchase. Most of my craft beer liking friends who are not homebrewers or beer message board types love ZD but I doubt would be able to tell you where an APA starts and an IPA begins.

And the notion that there even is such a thing as a "6th best beer in the world" is patently absurd.

This. A thousand times this. Most people who buy ZD may know that it is awesome and that it is hard to find, but would have no idea where it ranks on some message board list of best beers. And I think that's a good thing.

One of the aspects I like so much about beer is that, relative to drinking wine or scotch, you can get incredibly great stuff for a relatively low cost. It is the drink for the proletariat! Worrying too much about rankings and being on a never-ending quest to acquire beers that function more as trophies and beverages troubles me. Rarity, in and of itself, is not a virtue. I worry that the increased fervor about this stuff is just going to ruin it.

Drinking one right now and can say for a fact that the flavor and "drink-ability" of this stuff is amazing. I agree there may be better beers out there, but the relative availability of this beer (in the great lakes region) mixed with the low cost/case makes this one of the best beers for the money out there, and anyone who refutes this is either jaded cuz they don't have regular access to this beer or just out to say, "Yes, but there are better..." (which I've already agreed to so stfu). Have a good evening.

To answer the original question, no, supply doesn't equal demand. It doesn't even equal the demand in the immediate area. Maybe I am unrealistic, but until I can find ZD on the shelf more than 3 hours after my local store has received their 1 case allotment, supply isn't even close. Personally, I find ZD to be a phenomenal beer and it's rareness adds little to it's allure. Sure, the hunt is part of the fun, but I'd still be quite happy if I could walk into my local store and know that ZD is always an option.

No, it does not. Its next to impossible to find in the burbs, if I really want it I head to the source. But 3 Floyds is tripling expansion soon? Hopefully now I can buy a six pack in the stores without feeling like I owe the clerk a life debt. Their eyes roll as soon as you say the word Zombie...
