I made the key word in your statement bold. I'd love to see you get the granting of an exception for the beer on eBay passed haha I think I'd actually pay to watch the reaction faces of the judges or whoever decides on passing the law or not when they hear your flawed arguments. You'll argue till you're blue and they'll still deny the exception.

I'm surprised it took almost a hundred posts for someone to mention this. Oxidation on a growler fill can be detected within hours. Seems a shame to take a beer this well liked and hold onto it for possibly a week to two weeks before it's consumed. I'm kind of surprised that people sell and trade growlers so frequently because of this. I'm not sure if Alpine does a counter-pressure fill or fills them straight off the tap.

But that is quite a bit different than your original claim that there is "... no federal control of alcohol aside from taxes..." which is what I responded to. There's no question that the Federal regulations leave a large portion of alcoholic beverage control up to the individual states' laws.

In context, that quote was referring to the 21st amendment, was not speaking in general.

TTB deals "mostly" with taxes, states deal with transportation, that's what I was referring to, we're saying the same thing. My original post was a little too generic, that's why I said I was sorry for not being specific enough. Now we're just beating a dead horse.

There's no contradiction. If he wants to change his policy and screw over his customers by making his beer a bigger pain in the ass to drink, that's his perogative. It's his whiney little bitchfest in his blog that bugs me -- particularly his little temper tantrum threat about potentially not bottling anymore either. Waaah.

I always find it entertaining the way beer nerds demonize aftermarket beer sales, but will happily send gallons of beer across the country without any heed to the laws they're breaking themselves. I guess the laws are only applicable if they're convenient for you.

There's a blog he's bitching and moaning on? I thought it was just the newsletter thing.

You hate that beer is put on a pedestal and viewed almost like a sacrament but you view a rather minor change (all things considered) to one beer as screwing over the customers? If you want to see an overreaction look at everyone of there who is offended by this move or thinks he is screwing anyone over. It's just beer, no real harm has been done.

I'm not sure where you drew your backwards connection. I didn't put beer on a pedestal. But his beer is a product that apparently the "locals" enjoy. Removing the mediums that allow the locals to take his product home and enjoy it at their own convenience, all just because he got butthurt that someone put some on eBay, is just stupid. It's a temper tantrum, and nothing more.

If it's leading to anything like Younger only on tap, the beer will only be easier to drink. It could last much longer at the pub, and anybody who wants some, could easily just go to the brewery to get it. It's not making it harder on anybody to drink. Oh, you mean the guys who want to pay 100$ for a growler? By a plane ticket.

or did they stop bottling this beer?

EDIT I see that he is considering not bottling it too. Hmmm. So it goes.

Wait a minute, you mean the customers who got "screwed over" don't seem to be upset? It's almost like they didn't get screwed over at all.

I'm not upset, I just didn't agree with the reasons for his decision, therefore didn't agree with the decision itself. If he came forward and said "Hey everyone, I'm worried that my beer is contributing to illegal actions happening and because I strongly protest that I will no longer be releasing growlers or bottles", I would have been fine with it. The whole "illegality" aspect seemed more of an afterthought. His "just plain wrong" comment was laughable.

That said, Expo is a great beer, but if I never have it again I won't care.

Me too especially when its a trader and its on the basis that its illegal. Trading is also illegal yet they'll try explaining why its not. I'm usually entertained by their explanations.

you of ALL people should understand the difference between " the only upset people are outside of san diego " and " all people outside of san diego are upset. "

your response is level-headed. i just don't get the vitriol, the claims of " taking his ball home, " or likening him to a crybaby. i think his position is a bit inconsistent (he self-distributes to bev4less, which as a store isn't a heck of a lot different from ebay on both pricing and legality grounds). but he's taking a stand, and he's putting himself out there to raise awareness of an issue he feels strongly about. unfortunately, on the internet that simply makes him a target.

Did I mention anything about a relic in regards to beer on ebay? No. It was in the context of a discussion about an old Coca Cola can re: drugs and firearms (which is not hypothetical, I have rec'd a dismissal of having an otherwise illegal short barreled shotgun based on its curio & relic status, see 18 U.S.C. 44 ). Reading comprehension is very important, moreso than making your own scarecrow argument.

We already hashed out my argument about beer/ebay. Collectible bottles/statutory construction/notice/due process/selective enforcement/etc. . . These are the legal reasons. I also laid out the real world considerations (big corporations, big $$$).

You're giving me way too much credit . Given it's the internet, you obviously understand I:

    1. Don't read carefully
    2. Immediately jump to conclusions so I can step on my high-horse
    3. Yell poorly thought out complaints about things

    Right?

I don't understand why this is such a big deal. So what some guy is getting it and making a buck on it. But at the sametime someone who doesn't live by the brewery will get a chance to have a great beer. Don't get me wrong I've never sold anything on eBay but that's because I just prefer to drink it. The fact that some brewer is dumb enough to stop selling a product because he wants to control every aspect of it is just stupid. This guy is an idiot.
