If you are in lombard, I would go to

    1) Binny's Glen Ellyn or Binny's Downers Grove (they are very close to one another)
    2) The beer cellar
    3) 20 West Wine and Liqours
    4) Foremost in Villa Park (there prices suck, but for example there beermenu says they have parabola there right now. not sure if its true but you might be able to find some stuff)
    5) Famous Liqours Lombard (decent selection and see what they got).

There are six close shops you could go too. I would expect possibly CW BBS, BBBW, Revolution Straight Jacket, Mean Gene, and Bean Gene, maybe a Parabola, I doubt any Black Note. But you can always find some delicious Pipeworks, Spiteful, Une Anne, Revolution, and tons of other great distro.

Also if you don't get Uinta Cockeyed Cooper in MN it is worth checking out. Should be about $13 for a 750.

I'm a die-hard Revolution fan but am I the only one who skipped the $20 bombers of Straight Jacket seen around town?

Funny as I'd happily throw down $20+ for a 4-pack of that beer in cans!

Yeah, as much as I enjoy SJ, the Genes, etc. the retail prices are just too steep. The slightly lower prices (~ $15?) at the brewery are my max. I'd probably buy a ton if they were in the $10-$12 range.

I buy one every time it comes out. I will say mean gene was pretty disappointing for me. A bit too carbonated and I didn't get much coffee. Straight Jacket kills it though. $20 is too much though.

Temperance Beer Company in Evanston is launching Birdsong Saison and Might Meets Right Imperial Stout today. Nice Taproom. BYOF.

I'd have to agree with most of the posters here. Also, if you are near an Armanetti's, it's worth a stop. Gotten some great finds there.

If you're close enough. The tap room sells it for 15.

That's because Mean Gene doesn't have coffee. The coffee Mean Gene is called Bean Gene.

I wish they had bottled Blue Gene.

Thanks everyone - was able to trackdown some
Parabola, Revolution, Pipeworks, Anderson Valley, and CW...

CW has been off the shelves for months in MN...

Thanks to everyone for the tips - I really appreciate it. If you make it up to MN - just let me know.

It seems weird that Straight Jacket - as great as it is - is $18 at retail and Sucaba is $15 shipped all the way from California and in much more limited supply, and CW BBW is $15 and you get twice as much in a 4-pack. I do think that Straight Jacket is a top-tier BA Barleywine and I picked up four from the brewery last time it was released, but I don't buy more because I see stacks of it everywhere at such a high price point. If they are making that much of it, would be great to see it in a smaller form factor (especially given the ABV). Though it seems weird to drink BABW out of a can.

Revolution knows what they're doing, just one of those things where as a consumer I am really curious to know a lot more about the whole system and pricing structure.

Glad @HoudiniRN grabbed some solid stuff - and if you're still in the city, I think Barrel Aged B.O.R.I.S. just hit again last week - can't remember if I saw Hoppin' Frog last time I was in Minneapolis attacking the Surdyk's.

Lol I know I know I just mixed em up when I wrote. Bean Gene is very disappointing. I have not tried Mean Gene.

Agreed, grossly overpriced. All of Rev's bombers have asinine prices.

That a great haul. Glad we could help
Lower your expectations. I thought it was a very nice beer. Sure the bottle was overpriced but the beer itself, regardless of price, was pretty tasty. I think the ratings agree
