New Glarus IIPA is godly. I would honestly say its my third favorite IPA behind Heady and Abrasive Ale.

Yokel and Hometown coming back are great. I think New Glarus has done quite well with the lagers over the last two summers (Hometown and Edel Pils). I can only hope Dan will take another crack at an Olde English Porter variant. Given how much the sours have taken off, I would imagine more people might find the acidity more appealing this time around, but who knows. One of my favorite Unplugged/Thumbprints from NG.

I wouldn't write off Dancing Man Wheat. That is one of, if not their most, solid seasonal offering. They certainly have the capacity to produce more than just two seasonals now. Yokel, Hometown, and Dancing Man Wheat would make for some tremendous options this summer.

Good information overall OP, but your comment about IIPA coming out in June is either off, or NG is going to change how they release their Thumbprints. Given they are usually on a two month rotation wouldn't the IIPA be released in July?

Anybody know what types of hops or even how many hop varieties are used in IIPA?

Stores running out of Wild Sour in a week while there are still cases of Winter Warmer in most stores should be a good indication of what people want. I have no doubt the Bourbon Barrel Kriek will be no different whenever it's released.

Great stuff overall. More sours, good summer brews, and someday Spotted Cow will become camping friendly.

    Didn't someone
Didn't some info come out about them re-tuning the Thumbprint cycle to have 2 in rotation at once but with one on a shorter window?

I've heard a few times that they are moving to 2x 6-month thumbprints per year and 4x 3-month thumbprints per year. So six per year and there will always be two available (assuming they aren't sold out). No proof yet though.

My understanding is that they are no longer releasing beers as R&D beers. From an article I read it sounded like other breweries started using R&D in the name of their beers so they decided to change the names to Thumbprint Series.

I think you are referring to 'Unplugged' and not R&D?

No? R&D is what they use for the one offs they release around the GTMW. You're thinking of Unplugged.

I'm drinking an Ale Asylum Ünshadowed right now and it's just not very good. I want Dancing Man NOW.

I'll try to look for the article as I may be mistaken but what is GTMW? It was an interview with the owner.

    Great Taste of the Midwest.

Previous R&D beers: Very Sour Blackberry, Sour Ale, Bourbon Barrel Kriek, Geueze, Golden Ale, Two Women, etc.

For the hard hat tour, yes. They are currently sold out until November. But you can do a normal walking tour anytime.

Yah I can't find the article. It mentioned some sort of name change for a series of their beers that is now how they name their beers. I found it on the New Glarus website but can't find it. I'm sure I may be mistaken as to what my recollection was. I'm getting old. My memory isn't so hot anymore. Maybe it's all the beer?

Ahh OK thanks for the clarification. I want to make it up there this summer - looks like it will be the normal tour.

They changed unplugged to thumbprint. I think it was because of the unchained series another brewery started. New Glarus is still doing R&D.

    - yokel coming soon. They are brewing it this week.

Phenomenal news. Why that one was out of the rotation for so many years I can't possibly guess.

As long as I am able to procure some Apple Ale for the wife from time to time, I'll be happy. Anything else is a bonus.
