Would you say it's comparable with Keesmann Herren Pils? To me it's that breadiness and hop flavor (without bitterness) is what truly sets it apart.

Nice! I hope I can get my hands on a bottle of this at some point in my life. Sounds like an awesome pils.

Faust is sold in the US as Miltenberger. I am not aware that the Pils is imported to the US. The importer is Iron Horse Beverage.

Below is a press release discussing the import of Miltenberger (no mention of the Pils). My local beer store (retail beer distributor) has two cases of the variety pack. I have refused to purchase a case since there are no dates on the case. I have made enquiries as to whether there are dates on Miltenberger beers but I have not received any answers.

“Iron Horse Beverage is the US Importer for Miltenberger brews which to be introduced in a Bavarian Beer variety pack of 5 Dopplebock, 5 Hefe Weiss and 5 Dunkel Weiss swingtop bottles. East Coast distribution is planned for 4th Qtr of 2013 with Midwest introduction 1st Qtr 2014.”

    Cheers!

Huh. Never seen Miltenberger around here in central IN. My beer store has a pretty awesome selection, but tends towards the Belgians when it comes to imports. I guess I'm just going to have to suffer through a constant and endless supply of Schneider Weisse, Weihenstephaner, Schlenkerla, etc. Bummer.

“Schneider Weisse, Weihenstephaner, Schlenkerla” those are fantastic breweries but there is always room for some more. I just recently purchased a few bottles of Andechs beer; Yum! If I find singles bottles of Miltenberger (Faust) I will most definitely pick up a few bottles. I refuse to purchase a case (15 bottles) with no dating though.

I hope that Rothaus starts exporting to the US like has been discussed in past thread; Rothaus Pils is very, very tasty!

    Cheers!

The shop has some really great brands, I guess I was being facetious when I picked out those few just to emphasize how "bad" I had it.

As for Rothaus, I'm waiting impatiently for the day when I see those gold-foil topped Zaepfle bottles gracing the shelves of my local store.

There was an announced plan (@einhorn mentioned it) for Rothaus to export their Pils in 2013 but circumstances have changed. Hopefully Rothaus may be in a better financial position later this year or 2015 where they can reconsider exporting the Pils to the US?

    Cheers!

Piling on the Faust Pils photo bomb...

I chose this brew to celebrate my One Year Anniversary of Living in Germany (we'll crack open a Faust Eisbock this weekend).

    Prost, Friends!

What, no flowers on the table!?!

    Cheers!

P.S. I suppose the flowers in the background ‘count’.

Aside from the brew, the emphases is on the quilted table cloth my mom made for my wife and I and our mid-1400's haus. Flowers are just lagniappe.

Yep, that is indeed a very nice tablecloth.

    Cheers to your mom!

(Sorry, no computer access for a while)
Matt said it a lot better than I can, but I agree with his sentiment - Rothaus and Faust are two very different examples of the same style, but both are very good (IMHO). As I said earlier, Faust and Kneitinger might be a better comparison, but I'd be happy if someone who's had both could weigh in on that.

I have never had this, unfortunately. I hope to correct that before I leave for good.

Even though it's "just" a pils, it's one of the best beers I had in the whole region. While my opinions on some other faves have varied from trip to trip (or even glass to glass), Herren has been unmistakably amazing every time I've had it.
I watched them doing some bottling and shipping and it seems like they have a pretty decent capacity. Hopefully it's around in your area. The labels and branding are pretty nondescript...if not just flat-out boring. I think that was one thing that made it so surprisingly good.

High praise considering the region you are talking about! It is not in my area but I do know how to get it, a website that specializes in Franconian beer. I've ordered from them before with some success (a case of Spezial Lager).

I haven't had all of the best pilsners (or probably even many of them), but I did have a Herren only a few hours apart from a Rothaus one. To me it was unmistakably better and my wife agreed. I suppose freshness could always be an issue since the Herren was draft and the Zapfle was from a bottle at a thai restaurant.
The Faessla Gold Pils is also really good and somewhat similar, although I found it to be very average on one trip and amazing on the next. I'm afraid of strongly recommending it since my experiences were so different. However when it's "on" it's comparable to the Herren.

I have the opportunity to drink Rothaus vom Fass about once every two weeks (a weekly dual-language Pub Quiz to which my wife and I alternate weeks). Every now and again you get the impression that they must have just put a new keg on and it is really delicious. I am a fan of that beer, though, bottled or on tap. I've not had Fässla's. Mahr's makes a good Pils. I haven't mustered up the courage to try Kaiserdom's. :grinning:

Rothaus vom Fass is really sublime. When I was living in Germany I was in Freiburg (Breisgau) right in the heart of Rothaus country, so it was ubiquitous in just about every format. Most of the bars in town served Ganter or Fuerstenberg, neither of which are anything notable, but a few had Rothaus available, which was a special thing.

But those three aforementioned brands are keine richtigen Bayernbiere. So I guess I'm off-topic. :grinning:

This Hefeweißbier is good, but I much more prefer an Augustiner Bräu Hefe-Weissbier Hell.
