I'm coming into Warren for a last minute business trip early next week. Besides Kuhnhenn, anywhere else I need to go (breweries, bottle shops, bottles to look for)? Also, any help on a good place for dinner would be helpful. Nothing fancy for dinner. Thanks guys.
I'll let everyone else tell you where to go for beer but for a non fancy AMAZING dinner go to Red Coat Tavern. The burgers are the best in the area and they have a decent tap/bottle list. Now I want a burger and onion rings and its 7am.
One Eyed Betty in Ferndale has a great beer selection, and if you can make it Vinsettas Garage in Royal Oak has amazing food. It is a decent wait though on most nights
other breweries in Warren are Dragonmead and Falling Down Beer Co....While there, might as well go to both imo..OR, depending on how far you can travel Griffin Claw in Birmingham is not too far from there...YOu can also get good food in Birmingham or Royal Oak...Warren blows for food...
Thanks guys! It looks like it is one night, but could spill over into 2 nights. I'll give red coat a try. Any chance Black Note is available for anything else good on the shelves? Even a smaller brewery that I shouldn't miss out on. I have access to Bell's, Founders and Dark Horse for the most part
Buy Short's and Odd Sides stuff. I know Short's is MI only, and I think Odd Sides is too. Both make a lot of good beers. If you're gonna hit Holiday, they have a lot of singles so you can try without breaking the bank on multiple six packs. Good luck on Black Note, I haven't seen or heard of it being available in Oakland county this year.
Stop 1. Holiday Market in Royal Oak for all beer/mead/wine/cheese/smoked meat needs Stop 2. Vinsetta Garage for excellent taplist and a Macon Bacon Burger (pro tip: sit at the bar for nearly no wait) Stop 3. Kuhnhenns Brewery to drink yourself through the night Stop 4. Bed Next day: Let us know what you thought!
Guess I disagree...As far as TOTAL tap lists right now, Griffin Claw is just as good...( if your talking just warren, I cant disagree with ya...)
So I hit both Kuhnhenn and Vinsetta Garage. Both were really good. At Kuhnhenn I had the DRIPA, Fluffer, White Devil, Creme Brule, Oatmeal Stout, and Simcoe Silly. All were really good. At Vinsetta I sat at the bar (good call @steebo777 ). Food was pretty good, but I thought the beer selection was really good. Although, I was surprised there was no Founders and only one Bell's. Had the Short's Huma Lupa Licious which was good and duchesse de bourgogne which I love and find it hard to get on tap. All in all a good beer night. Thanks for the help guys!
We're glad that you enjoyed your visit. Michigan hospitality frequently comes in liquid form. C'mon back again sometime and experience more of it.
Actually, I may be back in a few weeks depending on how things go. If I get more time on the next trip, maybe I can a few NY/NJ bottles for sharing.
