I have found that most Crooked Stave beers share some unique taste characteristics but I have trouble articulating what they are.

I have to say DFH. All their beers have a dogfish taste to them.

Rex Attitude. Taste like dirt that is inside an ashtray. Took me 2-3 bottles but now I really love it.

Schlenkerla Aecht Schlenkerla Eiche - because it's a doppelbock.

Dieu Du Ciel Route Des Épices - because of the peppercorns.

Bourbonic Plague. I can't think of another beer that tastes like this. My all-time favorite beer.

Here in Illinois we have a new upstart brewery. I don't know if its been mentioned here yet, but it's called Penrose Brewery. Last weekend I was lucky enough to have a 64oz growler of their P2 Belgium hopped IPA. It was fantastic and needless to say I'll be back there this weekend...www.penrosebrewing.com...Check it out

Blanche de Bruxelles. I've had plenty of other witbiers with coriander and orange peel but this beer has this extremely unique flavor that none of the others have. Love this beer.

Also, as someone previously mentioned, Orval. Such a unique, world class beer.

Not too many other breweries focus as specifically on Brettanomyces as Crooked Stave.

I had a coffee saison (Kahawa-Bunga) last night from a local nanobrewery, Roc Brewing, that was excellent and very unique.

Battered Boar Dante's Porter. If you like a beer with a lot of black/white pepper and chiles that lingers for a while, and burns slightly after you swallow, then this is definitely something to try. I wouldn't recommend drinking the whole bomber to most people though. About 10-12 ounces will do most people because of the amount of pepper, but you can always use the rest of the bottle to cook a batch of chili or use it as a marinade for a steak, and let it soak for about an hour.
