I'm in the same boat as you. 28, and always been thin - but lately, this whole "not working for months at a time" thing has definitely changed the way my body handles my normal diet.

So I made the same decision: I basically only drink on weekends (and only if I'm with somebody), and one night a week when I go out for trivia. Yeah, there are nights I really, really want a beer, but I realized that I'd rather be happy with the way I look and save a couple bucks than have a beer.

    I disgust myself.

I only really drink Friday-Sunday and occasionally on Wednesday if I'm watching a good TV series that's on that day, and try to eat healthy and exercise. I actually get some excerice while drinking from walking while playing disc golf (however negligible it is). Saves money and my belly, and probably my health too.

Same problem here. I don't drink beer every day though. I try to keep it to 4 nights a week. I am usually at the gym at least 3 times a week to lift and do some cardio. I'll be 26 in a few weeks and I am hovering between 245 and 248. It's hard to keep the weight off.

I am starting to feel the same way. It has caused me to gain a bit of weight and without some kind of abstinence for a time each week that will only continue. I have two each day ( and I admit I was trying first to have 365 unique beers in 365 days, then I was trying to reach 500) and have put on five pounds. I am going to move to a 3 days off two days on schedule too to see if that helps.

I sympathize as 40 is chasing me down like a rabbid dog. I find that it is easier to motivate myself to exercise more than to drink less. Aside from that, limit fast food and apply moderation to everything except your sex life.

I'll be 30 this summer and drink a beer almost every night. During the week it's usually just one while I cook/eat dinner. On the weekends I'll have 2 or 3 and I rarely drink to get drunk anymore. I drink for the love of craft beer and trying new ones that I read about on here. With that said I have also started worrying about when or if it will catch up to me. I work out (weight lifting and/or running) really hard at least 5 days a week and am at least active (walking the dog or hiking) every day. For the most part I eat really healthy and with the working out so far so good.

My advice, since I like having beer everyday, would be to cut down on the number you have each day. Personally, I would rather have just one everyday instead of multiple a few times a week. It's a tough call though when you stock up on a bunch of tasty IPAs and you want to plow through them while they are at their freshest.

cut out the carbs from your food diet and exercise.

    ie...
I had a hard boiled egg, a slimfast and a diet yogurt for b-fast. cold cuts, some cheese and some raw veggies for lunch. and probably a burger with no bun or fries for dinner.

now I can get my carbs from beer. :grinning:

I like to have 1-3 beers every night. Sometimes a bomber will take the place of two. I've been keeping myself in beer-drinking shape by running every day after work and cutting out several foods that I realize I just don't need anymore: 1.) Fast foods 2.) French fries 3.) Heavy desserts 4.) Chinese food 5.) Soda.

Be aware of how many calories you are drinking to allow yourself the ability to keep it in check, exercise, and consume less calories than you burn. It doesn't need to be more difficult than that.

Honestly, I just recently sort of figured out the formula. I calorie count my beers, do light cardio 3-4 times a week (usually burning around 1000 calories for 1 hour of elliptical according to my heart rate monitor), and only drink session beers during the week with my new favorite being go to IPA from stone at only 135 calories per bottles. on the weekends though I go nuts, but also try to keep my food calories around 1000. I think the issue is that when beer is drank, lots of food is also usually consumed which totally ups your calorie intake. So eat enough (or "eat smart") to get enough where you're not hungry...but just watch the calories. Uncle Jacob's for example is 500+ calories per 12 oz bottle...That shit is dangerous. lol

Sounds a lot more difficult than just saying "I don't need a beer tonight"

I learned real quick that I must limit myself to 2-3 beers 2-3 days a week. Otherwise, I'd need my own zip code.

Doesnt matter if it is beer or cheeseburgers...consume too much (more than your body needs) and you'll gain weight.
Just be sensible. Don't "cut carbs" or "cut fat". your body NEEDS carbs, protein AND fats. But, it only needs so much. too much of ANYTHING is bad for you.

I can finally use my Kins Degree on this site!!!

Cals in V. Cals out is pretty much the idea behind fat loss (Of course you want proper macronutrients, Protein, Fats and Carbs)

Its also very beneficial to know your BMR and TDEE

MyFitnessPal allows you to scan beer bottles (also easily searchable) to track calories.

Hand to hand combat seems to work for The Hound in Game of Thrones. He likes a good fight before settling down for a session.

The Hound: "You got any ale?"
The friendly farmer shakes his head.
The Hound: "What kind of man has no ale in his house?"

I've cut down on my beer/calories intake by enjoying a cup of decaf coffee some nights instead of having one more beer. Also I drink less high ABV calorie bombs these days. I'm starting to get old (37) so minor adjustments are needed here and there. I'd like to pace myself so I can still enjoy beer into my 70s/80s (God willing).

Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels. Personally I do not partake Mon-Wed. Thursday I may pick one beer and Fri-Sun it's an open field. This has worked for me with regular exercise and portion control. I gave up on so many good beers so little time.
