In June, I'm taking a trip to Port Huron, and will be traveling along I75 all the way through Michigan. What are the "must stop" breweries and bottle shops that I need to consider? What may be available for purchase at these places when I stop? I'm looking to pick up some bottles and I'll have some growlers to fill.

Just out of curiosity, where exactly are you leaving from that has you taking I-75 to get to Port Huron? I'd love to drop some suggestions, but I cannot picture a scenario that involves taking I-75 to get there.

if he is coming from Indianapolis or fort Wayne area he would be using 75 for part of the trip. there is not a whole lot directly off 75 however. If your coming from south near , ohio border i would say hit kuhnhenn, b nektar, schramms, griffin claw, possibly the royal oak area.

Well, near as I can tell you'll only need I-75 for a very short part of your trip no matter where you are coming from. Unfortunately that portion of 75 has little to offer, but a short detour will allow you to hit everything mentioned above.

Would add Champane's to the list for bottle shops, which is just about as close to Kuhnhenn as you can imagine. Holiday Market too if you make it to Royal Oak.

FYI there is a brewery in port Huron. It changed names so I don't know what it's called now but It used to be called quay street brewing. Regardless it's still on "quay street". It's nothing great but just a good local place with a great view if you sit outside on the water. Decent food. So if the weather is nice which it should be check it out. But if you have limited time then don't bother because again it's nothing special.

Make a detour to Warren and stop by Kuhnhenn and Dragonmead.

On your way through Clarkston, stop at the Union or the Woodshop. Both have amazing food and really good taplists.

Maybe he's coming from the Indiana side of the Cincy area, but if coming from Ft. Wayne or Indy then I-69 will take him the entire way to Port Huron. Dark Horse in Marshall (2 miles off the interstate) or Arcadia in Battle Creek (10 miles off) are two breweries worth a visit. There is a Mega-Bev in both cities too for good bottle shops. The breweries in the Lansing area aren't anything special yet, but Horrocks in Lansing is just off I-69 and is a great bottle shop. (There is also a Horrocks in Battle Creek that is not quite as good as the one in Lansing.) While passing the Flint area, then about 5 miles south on US-23 and just off the highway exit is Redwood Lodge, and they make some great beers and have wonderful food, although I think the food tends toward an upscale menu.

I disagree taking 69 into michigan is out of the way. you would hop on 75 in toledo area.

Table and Tap in downtown Flint has a pretty good tap list and their food is delicious. http://www.beermenus.com/places/8716-table-tap

I agree with I-75 if he's coming from the Cincy area of Indiana (or anywhere else in eastern Indiana along the Ohio line), but if he's coming from Indy, Ft. Wayne, etc. then I-69 is a no brainer unless he wants to go 75 miles out of his way to get over to I-75. It just depends on his starting place.

so basically your going to go 75 to 94...gotta be honest, their aint shit on your way....best bet is to go a little off the path to Kuhnhenn and then to the bottle shop right down the street imo...

you can hit the andersons for bottles in toledo, not far from 75. you could swing through downtown detroit and hit up slows for taps and food also.

    ^this.

At the point your directions tell you to merge on to I-94 from I-75, ignore and stay on 75 for another 10 minutes till you hit 696. That'll put you right at the Eastern edge of Royal Oak where you can hit up Holiday Market. Then jump on 696 and shoot over to Warren to hit up Kuhnhenn and Champane's.

Of course Slows to-go for BBQ and straight up to Kuhnhenn would make for a nice day too.

if you arent pressed for time id suggest taking I-75 north to I-69. it will add a little extra time but you will have better places to stop. someone posted earlier about The Clarkston Union and Woodshop. these two places are right off of 75 in Clarkston and have great food and beer. the Union has a much larger taplist and the Woodshop has some fantastic BBQ/smoked meat. they are owned by the same people and you can park in one place and walk to both. there is a small bottle selection at a place called Rudys right there in town as well. also you can go to Kuhnhenn which is about 10-15 minutes off of I-75 and Champanes is a nice bottle shop right down the street from there. the Flint area has a couple good options too.

taking 94 will be quicker by quite a bit but if you do decide on the I-75 route then these are the things id consider. i can suggest a few good bottle shops near the Clarkston area as well if you choose that route.

Id say hit up Kuhnhenn and Dragonmead. Assuming you're gonna take 75 to 696 to 94 to Port Huron. Dragonmead is right on the service drive for 696 so its worth the stop. Both Kuhn and DM don't have much in the ways of food, but you can bring your own to both. Kuhn sometimes has a BBQ or polish place that sells food there. if you opt to go to dragonmead there's a great BBQ place just north of it on Groesbeck Hwy called Lazybones which is IMO better than Slow's (which is in Detroit and has outrageous waits most days at the original location. Lastly I'd avoid Griffin Claw if you're taking the route i mentioned. its out of the way and ive personally been unimpressed with it, though their food is pretty good. They charge a little more for their beers than I'm willing to pay since i can get superior brews from Kuhns cheaper.

Just thought of this. Summer Solstice party at Kuhnhenn is during June so if you happen to be up on the 20th that is a MUST stop. One of the 2 days a year you can buy bottles of BB4D (maybe BBBW) and other great beers as well as have them on tap. If you're coming up or down that day skip everything else and go to it.
