    Wild King description:
Sit down kid, and let me tell you the story of the Wild King. The Wild King is powerful and lives in a stronghold of fresh raspberry, pineapple, and warm brandy aromas. He wears at his hip a great sword of flavor, folded within the steel is raspberry tartness, mingling with Brett complexity. At the end of the day he rests on a throne of oak and vanilla. All hail the Wild King! A Wild Saison, aged in both red wine barrels and California Brandy Barrels with fresh, local raspberries & Brett Yeast.

    Wild Queen description:
Wild Queen reigns over a kingdom of sour, spice, and fruit. Rich aromas of ripe, red raspberry and tannic oak command the nose. Hints of spicy red wine and leathery Brett balance with flavors of sweet, caramel brandy to give the beer its robust character. She is a carnal endeavor. A tempest of indulgence. A truly Wild Queen. A Wild Saison, aged in both red wine barrels and California Brandy Barrels with fresh, local raspberries & Brett Yeast.

So I read these two descriptions and the only two differences that I have noticed is the ABV is 8.4% in Wild Queen and 6.8% in Wild King. Wild King looks to have pineapple in the beer also. They are both Wild Ales aged in red wine and brandy barrels with raspberries and brett.

Anything else that am I missing here?

Are there different strains of brett used in each beer? Or perhaps a different base beer? Just curious what the back story on these two beers would happen to be. Does anyone know? Thanks for any in site that you can provide!

They were both made in association with oncemade.com a few years ago.
One was by Night Shift, the other by Backlash. If I recall, they were the same beer just made by different breweries.
I never picked up the set due to cost ($50) and general dislike of Night Shift's products.

@4DAloveofSTOUT Yes, they are very similar. The concept behind the beer was a slightly different take on a collaboration. As is typical with a collob, we at Night Shift and the folks at Backlash agreed on a beer style (Saison), adjuncts (raspberries), yeast (saison plus 2 strains Brett), and barrel types (red wine & brandy). We then took that common thread and brewed our on recipe and used those commonalities differently. Backlash went slightly more traditional with grain bill, hops, abv and used less raspberries. We went for a bigger red rye saison with more berries. Both beers were brewed/fermented/barrel aged and packaged at Night Shift. The general idea was that you would drink them side by side and experience each brewers interpretation of what the collaboration was. It was a cool project but as its been said many times before on this site the cost was too damn high due to having a third party involved and fancy packaging.

We really loved the wild queen especially after some bottle aging time. The beer was brewed in June of 2012 so its approaching 2 years old now. Hope that helps. Happy to answer further questions on the beers/project. Cheers.

I'm still sitting on mine, If anyone wants to drink them with me, let me know. I think it would be cool to drink them with the nightshift guys to see what they think as well.

Got finished with the Wild Queen and Wild King side by side! Thanks to 2 fantastic BA's that made this happen! Thanks to ICCULUS for sending TATURBO these beers! And thanks to TATURBO for opening them up with me!

Overall, Wild Queen was better than Wild King. Heres the highlights:

Both Wild King and Wild Queen had a thunderous pop as the cork left the bottle neck.

Appearance: Wild Queen was the better looking beer and had rediculious head retention! Wild Queen was medium red and Wild King was orange! Didnt expect such a color difference between both these beers.

Smell: Wild Queen was more wine barrel and raspberries with mellow sour aroma. Wild King was more about the brandy barrel and wine barrel with less fruit influence with a big sour nose.

Taste: Wild Queen was alike a wine barrel rasberry berlinner wiesse with a hint of brandy barrel in the best possible way! Wild King was minimal fruit influence and the brandy barrel really took the lead with a hint of red wine tannins. I didnt get much pineapple or raspberries, but I definately tasted oranges! Which was a cool surprise!!! The barrel presence seemed to cancel out the sourness of the beer in the finish, but the sourness was moderate and easy to find at the front of the beer.

Mouthfeel: Wild Queen had the better mouthfeel. It was soft delicate and creamy. Semi dry finish. Wild King was crisp, clean, and substantially dry.

Overall: Wild Queen was an easy choice as the better beer, but both Wild Queen and Wild King were awesome beers! Wild queen was like a double barrel aged raspberry berlinner weiss. Wild King was a completely unique experience; I have never had a sour beer like this before. Big heavy barrel flavors with a dry finish. Really great stuff! I also gotta mention that these beer held up excellantly considering that they have spent almost 2 years in the bottle and I wish that I could have tried them both fresh...
