KBS doesnt taste as good anymore because its more readily available. all the beers mentioned are FAR SUPERIOR! and they BLOW KBS OUT OF THE WATER!

seriously though, there arent really any beers ive had that i consider similar to KBS. for me KBS blends all the flavors together really well. the chocolate, coffee, and barrel all go together really well for me and its like that every year. Big Bad Baptist and non infected Peruvian Morning are probably the most similar that i have had. BCBCS is spectacular but it is different from KBS, doesnt really have the chocolate and its a punch in the mouth which is good but different.

i agree...ive said multiple times on this site that i dont see the kbs and bcbcs comparisons...kbs is so smooth and bcbcs is so opposite that...i dont like comparing them because they go for 2 different things intentionally, clearly...both are in my top 10

to answer OP im not sure ive had a beer that tastes anything like it...blind taste test i could pick it out everytime

Kbs is the smoothest BA Stout I've ever drank especially on tap oh man that was an experience to say the least I got the last little bit from the keg at Founders Release Party they had here to celebrate their coming to AZ it was everything that I could want a Barrel Aged Beer to be Smooth Silky texture lots of chocolate and coffee and not hit you over the head with bourbon just the right amount and probably just because my poor made the keg kick plenty of head (I do love some good head) Bcbs was a bourbon bomb for me I couldn't get into it the bourbon just overpowered everything else instead of a stout with Bourbon it was bourbon with a hint of stout not my cup of tea. I haven't drank my bottle of Parabola from this year but it's supposed to be exceptionally smooth so we'll see how that goes oh and Velvet Merlin Pretty smooth BA Stout as well. Is prairie bomb Bourbon Barrel aged? I forget but that one is delicious and only the slightest hint of chiles
    Cheers to kbs[IMG]

    @kerry4porters
I have to agree. I had the '13 KBS on tap, January of this year, and it was almost literally perfect. I have one bottle of '13 left, saving it for the birth of my second daughter in early August. Funny thing, I'm saving a BCBCS to split with the wife for her first beer in 9 months. Ftr, I like KBS better, but that's just me.

Not many BA stouts have the balance of KBS.
    BCBS is boozier and sweeter.
    BA Boris is hotter.
Porcine Unidragon sucks worse than the normal uni-dragon, too harsh.
Huna is thicker and has pepper heat.
BA Siberian Night is boozier but not as sweet as BCBS.
BA Raspy has way more booze, but it's so awesome...
Dark Lord has varied a lot year to year, the one I had was super sweet.
Kentucky Bourbon Barrel is pretty mediocre, but easy to get. (This is not KBS, it's the weird Kentucky bourbon brewery)

Personally, I have yet to find a beer with similar equally distributed amounts of barrel, coffee and chocolate flavors as KBS, which to me makes it unique.

To steer away from the OP's actual question like the vast majority of others in this thread , KBS is certainly not my favorite BA beer, but I still enjoy the hell out of it.

Best part was I got it free since the keg kicked and I didn't get a full pour was amazing the only reason I didn't give it a perfect score was because I didn't get much time to drink and savor over the nuances lol the place was packed my gf and people we came with were hungry and ready to leave since it was a 45 min wait for seating but I was happy I had kbs in my belly

I think that Hoppin Frog Barrel Aged D.O.R.I.S. is comparable.

If you want something similar.. try out Heavy Seas BA Siren Noire. This years release. I think it's pretty damn good, and for the price and ease of finding it.. KBS was meh this year. Could be my tastes, or the beer, but it's less impressive every year.

But, it's still something you compare all good BA stouts too.

    This!^

2 out of 3 of us who sampled 3Bros Resolute last week thought it was slightly better than KBS (that we sampled just days before). The 3rd guy said it was a coin-toss of excellence. I bet Resolute is really hard to get next year after the hype machine kicks in.

Well put. I'm surprised at the run BCBCS has been on, as I thought it was a bit over-the-top too. Not bad by any stretch, just a little much. Then again, in the age of Triple IPAs and barrel-aged everything, extreme seems to be the name of the game. I can still dig those beers, but ripping on KBS for being "weak" compared to BCBCS seems simplistic.

See personally I don't think BCBCS and KBS are similar at all except for the fact that the are made with coffee. BCBCS is so much richer in every way. KBS this year had a body that was far to thin in MHO

Peruvian Morning is so soooo good when its fresh and not sour. Shame they can't figure out what keeps going wrong with it.
