Ehhh, when I first heard about it I thought it screamed of "I'm taking my ball and going home!" I mean, it's his decision and I don't really care one way or the other, but the post just sounded that way to me. I might have gotten the tone wrong (I've never met Pat), but I don't think it's totally unreasonable for people to react that way to what he said.

Now, the people who are calling him an idiots are definitely idiots, and you're probably right that no one in San Diego really cares. This makes me marginally less likely to get Expo, but the last time I had it I didn't really like it, so whatever. I am, however, still ISO Hoppy Birthday...

Just to defend the ball analogy, it absolutely fits. It refers to someone ending the game for everybody when they don't like the way a few people play. Anyone have the total volume of EH produced versus the amount of EH that makes it into grey market channels? I'm betting that's a real eye opening number, and not one that would favor pulling growlers off the market.

He said before if he sees one growler on eBay that would be the last growler ever filled. He is sticking to his guns. I do not care if there was only one growler that made it to the grey market I appreciate someone talking a stand for what they believe in. I have no problem saying it is a drastic action but I very much disagree with the ball analogy and tantrum statements.

It doesn't matter if he made his stance clear in advance or not if his stance is ridiculous. People with backwards and misguided beliefs take stands for what they believe in all the time.

Why is wanting your product to stay inside your target market ridiculous? It seems perfectly reasonable for someone to make changes to achieve a more desirable result. Once again, it seems like the only people who find this ridiculous are outside of the breweries target market.

Wanting your product to stay inside your target market is perfectly reasonable and is exactly what was happening. Demanding every last drop of it stays inside your target market is ridiculous. The amount of Alpine beer on ebay is functionally zero compared to their total barrelage.

I don't recall you posting any reasoning like this in PtY threads? Is Vinnie ridiculous too? He is also demanding every drop of beer stay inside his target market.

If a beer is available where growler fills are legal, growler fills should be allowed.

Will it hurt the business? Maybe so, maybe not. Will it help the business? Most likely not. Brewing may be his passion but how does he fund said passion? Too many decisions like this and he may have to find a new passion.

I wasn't around then, but did Vinnie do it because of one growler? That's what make this seems a bit overly dramatic to me. Letting literally one dude ruin it for everyone is just kinda dumb. For all he knows the dude made the listing specifically in order to get it noticed and kill growlers for everyone.

Anyway, if a brewer wants something to be draft-only I don't think anyone has a problem with it. Tons of things are draft-only. But doing it because of one growler on eBay still reeks of "taking my ball home" to me.

The non answer is slightly telling, no one here wants to call Vinnie ridiculous when he is doing the exact same thing.

Why should they be allowed? Just because it can does not mean it should. The beer it available and people who make the trip are able to drink it. It seems ridiculous to expect to get anything you want, any time you want and any way you want.

    actually, 20. ask beddachedda.

it's less " taking your ball home " and changing to a neighborhood field. everyone can still come over and play.

Sorry for the non answer. I was trying not to play along. Anyhow...

Vinnie is ridiculous for not allowing growlers. I have also hear he requires at least three tap handles dedicated to RR at a bar before he will even think about letting them pour his liquid gold that he lords over all beer lovers.

I don't expect a bar to have growlers readily available but, if growlers are legal and I bring my growler in, I expect them to fill it and know wth a growler is (isn't always the case).

Here's a good read for you

“The only way it was going to get out of there,” co-owner Natalie Cilurzo says, “was in your stomach.” No one was an issue with Natalie but if Pat made this exact statement we would be flooded with similar statements as we are seeing in this thread.

Truth be told, I've never seen a RR beer on tap. I live in Eastern Washington which is too dumb stupid to get RR beers.

p.s. Rule 29 & 30. Step off, fake internet girl.
