Now that I am home and got my one bottle......Eastside Woodmans had 28 bottles selling singles. Hy-Vee East Side had 8 bottles but they weren't in the computer when I was there so they couldn't sell it yet and I just couldn't wait any longer.

In previous years when I've purchase limited items like this or BCS, The liquor guy at the East Side Woomans has often priced it higher than anyone else.

Oh, OK. It was $6 a bottle. Seemed normal to me.

Agreed, that's fine. I can't remember exactly what it was but I once purchased a single bottle type item (might have been BN?) and it was $2 more than anyplace else. Yeah, it's only $2 but it was the principle of it all, esp in light of them being the largest liquor store in town.

It's odd because they don't seem to have an issue getting all their regular beer to Madison. I always see fresh Two Hearted on the shelves.

Isn't Bells the brewery that pulled out of all of Illinois at one point just because they didn't like the Chicago distributor? Maybe they're easily annoyed.

Just missed you... Got there at about 3:20 and got the third to last bottle, and heard the guy in line behind me ask for one too. They got it in at 12:30, so it actually lasted a while, IMO.

I also got lucky, and got one at my neighborhood store that was saving them for regulars... Since they only got 8 bottles total. Good thing I spend 50 bucks a week there on average :slight_frown:

At least I still have a little luck left on my side, since I know that Riley's has already done their lottery, and I was not a winner on that one.

Shout out to @mjpolzin for the heads up

Wouldn't surprise me with both them and Founders... Most liquor stores in the Madison area don't push their products compared to the local stuff or other large regional brewers. I know the local stuff here will/should get the best frontage in the store... But some places prop up other brands ahead of Bell's and Founders in the display order. As an architect who thinks about marketing design and display of products... This kind of stuff makes a difference. If the Madison distributor is not getting them better position, they won't sell as much to random customers, etc. Seems like other regional breweries are getting better spots?

That may be true, but I can tell you as a regular visitor to Rice Lake, I doubt the Village Dell moves enough to warrant an entire case of Black Note. It's a great store with friendly owners and a serious craft vibe, but I'm not sure they even outsell the other two main liquor stores in town. Hope you guys running around Madison were able to get a bottle.

Then the guy working was just blatantly lying for no reason. He told the guy ahead of me that there were two left. I actually ran into a GB rep afterwards at Dexter's; he wasn't the guy running around beer but he said that Woodman's East got 2 cases this year, the bulk of the market's allotment. We both agreed that this sort of limited release in a market of our size is pretty ridiculous when some stores get a single 4-pack. Whatever, got my bottle, happy just to be able to try it.

Got to East Side Woodmans after work at 3:30 yesterday and Black Note was gone. Ran to HyVee right after and they were out too. Damn, don't you people work?

Stopped into Sun Prairie Woodman's and chatted with the beer manager who I have gotten to know over the years. He said they got in four 4 pks of BN, but will be receiving more in two weeks. I guess Bells wanted to wait until after Madison beer week to bring BN, but there was enough pressure to bring half of it this week. Not sure if it will be just Woodmans or all stores. But if you missed out, looks like you get a second chance.
