I know I've read that there are different beer availability between the pub and the brewery at
Alpine. Can someone brief me on those policies please (not seeing anything on their site). I'll be in SD in a month, but won't be getting into town until Saturday night, and leave on Monday. So won't be able to make it up there at all while the brewery is open, plan to hit the pub on Sunday. Do they do growler fills at the pub? Bottle limits and availability?

I don't believe they do growler fills at the pub and you can only buy bottles from the pub when the brewery is closed (which doesn't sound like an issue for you). Note sure on bottle limits from the pub though.

    BREWERY HOURS: Tuesday-Saturday 12-6.
We DO NOT offer tours! If you want to see our brewery up close and personal, just step in and you will get the tour standing at the front counter. Yep, we are small! And we take pride in this fact!

A couple of fun facts about the pub:
    1. There is some serious history behind this building. It has been around for more than 60 years. Originally, it was McGuffie's. Agnes McGuffie ran it for more than 40 years, and had one of the last "Fountain Cokes" in San Diego. The bar has been here since the beginning.
    2. We CAN NOT take reservations. You can call ahead and see how the seating is looking, but we have a small capacity and limited chairs.
    3. We CAN NOT take large groups. We have had to turn away unannounced "Brewery Tours." If your group is 15 or less, please call ahead.
    4. We CAN NOT fill growlers in our pub! We sell 22oz bottles to go. Due to limited refrigerated storage space, we must limit sales to 2 22oz. bottles per available beer, per customer.
    5. We are small, and we get busy. We'll try to make sure your memories of the Alpine Beer Company and Pub are good ones. Let us know how we do!

He lured me in with the Purdue-centric name, and the reference to Purdue's 3 Amigos team of 1988 and Chuckie White (one of the best Big Ten rebounders of the past 25 years) sealed the deal. If he would have had an IU-centric name, I would have ignored him and perhaps trolled him with false information.

Also check for Beachwood BBQ Citraholic bottles, should be at Bine Vine.

Ocean Beach has a lot of great liquors.

I'll be down in SD starting tomorrow as well... staying with family in Escondido for about 5 days and going to be venturing out each day. Can't wait.

Love all the caps CAN NOT, DO NOT in the Alpine info. Ha. Can anybody tell me what bottles cost at Alpine?

    Thanks,
    joe

I think bombers of the IPA offerings are between 5.25 and 5.75 depending on which one. That's what I picked up Nelson and Duet for a couple weeks ago.

Stone Liberty Station was the highlight of my trip a couple weeks ago. (my trip at the end of this month will include Alpine though). If you are/were that close being in Little Italy you need to check them out. The Gardens were awesome. I was there the day after Sour Saturday so the "leftovers" made me feel like I was in heaven.

So I am back home in FLA after my 4 day trip to San Diego. I hit, in order, Societe, Coronado, Ballast Point in Little Italy, Alesmith, Lost Abbey, Stone, and Green Flash. Also hit Beachwood in Long Beach. I wanted to hit many more, but I was with my brother in law, and although he is a beer drinker and participated, he went to SD for photos of the area. So that took time away. I also did have the Mission Shipwrecker. I enjoyed some more than others, but can't say I was disappointed in any of them. I missed meeting Travis from little Italy, Pink from Stone, and almost met Speedway but just missed him. Thanks to you all again for being so forthcoming with recommendations and kindness. The people in San Diego were all awesome. Didn't have one bad experience with an individual or the breweries themselves. I was pleasantly surprised to have Pliny served from Stone, and their Cask Self - Righteous was probably the best beer I had while I was in the area.

Besides Bine & Vine, what are some good bottle shops? Heading there for the weekend, getting there Thursday.

FWIW, there was a 3-bomber limit (per beer) when I was at Alpine last month. I took home three Nelson and three Pure Hoppiness.
