calories in vs calories out isn't really true. the kind of calories makes a huge difference

No. Your body has all kinds of mechanisms to maintain a fairly constant weight. Gaining or losing weight is hard, biochemically speaking

Realistically that would be at a nice steady pace 1 beer a week. I dropped 15 lbs earlier this spring just keeping my diet on my point throughout the week then having 3-4 beers on Saturday and getting right back at it the next day.

good answer. lifestyle change is the only thing that is successful for changing your body type. It is a lot of work. It took a lot to make it the way it is, and it takes just as much to change it.

I was in great shape until I started drinking every day. That was only a year ago and I'm fat now. Put on 15-20 lbs of pure fat in the last year and in that time I ran a marathon. Beer makes you fat. Plain and simple. If you really want to lose weight, cut out beer and it will work

Fuggedabout it! I thought I could do my yoga and drink beer. I can't. Beer makes me sleep late it adds inches but not too much consternation. It is bloating so if you don't exercise you will see a lot more of it than if you do. I am thinking of knocking back from about 3 or 4 days a week down to 2.

Calories in vs. Calories out. You can lose weight eating shit food and drinking beer as long as you eat less calories than you burn. Now if you want to look good and be in shape you have to exercise, run, eat heathy etc.

Truth. It took me looking at my health, and making some really hard choices. My dad is a heart patient, my uncle is a heart patient and overweight and I generally felt sick. Like going up the stairs and getting winded sick. I woke up one day, and decided enough was enough. Lifestyle is the key. People I work with do a mock "Biggest Loser", but none permanently change their lifestyles so they regain the weight.

What I want to stress is to enjoy beer, but if you want to drink a couple at night skip the bread at lunch. Get a salad or lean prtein instead.

This one comes up every year or so, and the answer stays the same. There are no magic pills. Calories in/Calories out as has been said.

I got into cycling/mountain biking after I gained thirty pounds going from an active job to a sedentary job, stopping smoking, and discovering good beer. Now I maintain a weight I'm good with. Exercise not only burns calories and leaves room in the stomach for the gourmand in all of us, it's damn good for the soul.

Not really. Most peole burn around 125 calories per mile they run, so 3 miles burns approximately 375 calories. I guess it depends on what kind of beer you drink, but a "regular" beer has somewhere in the neighborhood of 200 calories.

Sounds like you need to read Bob Skilnik's book The Drink Beer, Get Thin Diet: A Low-Carbohydrate Approach. I am constantly battling my weight and I do seem to do better when I stop drinking beer. I try to do low-carb with beer as my main source of carbs, but whenever I drink beer, I seem to make bad food choices. I do lose weight when I eat low-carb, exercise regularly, and drink 1-2 beers a night. I just can't seem to stick with it long term.

calories in/ calories out simply isn't true. Utilizing fat as an energy source requires a depleted glycogen supply. Calories in do not all get utilized and your body is decent at deciding if it needs calories. your microbiome is affected by your diet, and your microbiome affects the way you utilize the calories you put in. Nothing in biology is that simple and "calculations" like the one above are meaningless. The plain truth is the 200 calories in that average beer do not affect me the same way they affect you and it is really hard to determine with any accuracy how much exercise will burn those calories. And frankly the calories in beer affect most people a lot more than the calories in lean protein. There are all kinds of mechanisms in your body that prevent weight change. If you're gaining or losing weight, you are doing something fairly drastic to your body.

Easy way to burn a ton of calories is put treadmill at max incline, enter weight and height, and then walk at like 4 mph you can burn 400 to 500 calories in a half hour.

Nice job sir with your moderate approach. The problem with anyone who gives up something they really enjoy be it a drug of any kind or beer for a month tops is they go crazy when they dip back in. If you are disciplined then you have control not those self-righteous AA junkies who think they have it all together when they can't even be in a room where someone is enjoying a cocktail.
