So I know this isn't the trading forum, but I like you guys and know some of you. I've never really gotten into trading other than a few IPs. Any advice on how to get started to get some out of state stuff?
Type in "Alewatcher's Blog" in Google search. That's a fountain of information that'll get you 85% there.
Just look in the ISO/FT forum, find something you like and have for trade and make an offer. Maybe be up front and note it is your first mail trade and offer to send first. That's usually what I do for new traders, and my first trade ever requested the same from me. Offer up sweet extras for your first
It's really pretty simple to get into...and addicting It's probably easiest just to watch the ISO/FT forum and see if something comes across that you can trade for. If you know the "value" of beers then just post in the forum but if not do your research first! Extras are always nice to send once you have your agreed upon beers. Some guys are pretty generous but for the most part guys will usually throw in 3-4 local goodies. You can always agree not to send extras as well. It's good to check out Seek a Brew sometimes so youre not offering beers that the other can easily get. I've never came away from a trade feeling like a winner or loser, its always been a nice fair trade where everyone is happy...which is the point!! BM me if you ever need some help, always willing to lend some advice if I can!
If you are just looking for some off the shelf beer in another part of the country, you can even post a nISO. I feel like we have some pretty solid beers in MN that people want to try that make it easy to get equally good stuff else where in the county. What I am saying is, for off the shelf beers, don't be afraid to go after them with MN locals for trade with dollar for dollar.
The best part of trading is developing a trading partner out of repeat trades. You might want totry to check out a "noob" BIF (beer it forward),. have found a couple repeat trades through those. I have went from trading with numerous people from ISO:FT to about 2-3 people that I have previously traded with.
Much demand for Surly and NG shelf beers. Temper your expectations, you can't get limited releases for shelf beer, even if the shelf beer is great, but an FT: My locals, ISO: your locals post should get many nibbles.
biggest problem with the IP trade forum is everyone overvalues their 'gets'. Also - its full of ISO DARK LORD I WANT NOTHING BUT DARK LORD. Maybe ill check again once everyone sells the farm for a dark lord.
