Just had Allagash Curieux last night and it was one of the rare tripels I actually enjoyed. I've tried several in the past, including La Fin, but even though I've revisited often, I never really enjoyed La Fin Du Monde. I'm wondering if I should try more bourbon barrel infused Tripels. Are there any other good ones out there? I have two more bottles of Curieux and I'm going to put them away for a year and see what happens.

Hardywood's current anniversary beer is a tequila barrel aged tripel, damn good and very spicy. Lickinghole Creek is about to come out w a bourbon barrel tripel as well.

There are lots of good tripels out there, it's one of my favorites, mostly cause of it's diversity I think.

Red Brick in Atlanta just released a one off called 3 Bagger which is a tripel aged in rum barrels. It is really good.

I wanted to love it, but that beer was so sweet and cloying, and had little barrel note. Was pricey too.

I was going to recommend this one. I'm not huge on Tripels, but this beer was outstanding. The rum barrel is perfect marriage for the tripel base, which was a little plain, but showcased both the beer and barrel.

I had one from Rockmill in Ohio that was awesome. It was a pricey bottle, but I'd do it again. Barrel flavors were very well balanced.

I can't suggest another BA tripel since Curieux is the only one I have had. But I have had it fresh and with about 18 months on it and I think the vanilla bourbony qualities really dissipate with age. If you like that about it then drink it fresh. It was still quite good after 18 months but not the same.

Thanks for the replies. My local grocer is selling Tripel Van de Garre for a very moderate price. Definitely am picking this up, but wondering if the taste profile is similar to La Fin du Monde.

Victory's White Monkey is their Golden Monkey aged in Chardonnay barrels, and I think that it is definitely an improvement on the base beer.

I forgot about White Monkey. That was definitely an improvement over Golden Monkey. I still like Curieux better though.

Me too, but I still thought it was a good beer....especially for the price ($7.99 for a 750ml in Ohio)!

Try Westmalle If you dislike that, there frankly there is hope for you, but more for me. :grinning:
Another great tripel is De Garre, but you have to Travel To bruges, be to get it. Worth the trip trust me.
The end of the world is a OK tripel but NO Westmalle, because frankly Westmalle is the standard.

and on a side note IF you have to age anything in a barrel that changes the taste, I hope it actually helps the beer, and not hides imperfections.
