When I was in the tasting room on Thursday I was told that they were evaluating the tequila version to see if it even tasted good. That was just from one of the servers, not a society rep or anything, but worth noting.

Got to try RDF, and really enjoyed it. Not sure if this is the appropriate place to post something like this, but if there's anyone who isn't using their second chance allocation for RDF or FDR, BM me and let's see if we can work something out.

Not spending money on this. I'm not buying any of the May beers either. When the 2014 RS/HS list came out, I was excited. My excitement level has been on the decline for the past 2+ months now. There are certain ones I'll buy 100% of the allocation (CR, GM, BT, SHIT, Mash, Mash & Coconut). But the RDF and FDR issues have killed enthusiasm. Soroboruo isn't even on the list (http://www.thebruery.com/reservesociety/2014.html) which leads me to belive they weren't planning on releasing it because of one issue or another - but then they decided to "intentionally" sour it so they wouldn't have to dump the batch.

Does it help that everyone has been saying the RDF and FDR beers have tasted normal and that the RDF is actually really good? It stinks not being able to age them or hold onto them for a long time but sounds like they are actually fine right now.

It does seem weird they had Soroboruo on the list, took it off, and now put it on sale again, though it was on the original list before memberships went on sale. I'll most likely wait to see if anyone is able to try it at the tasting room before thinking of buying one.

Does anybody have any additional background on Mischmishmish? I was just wondering why the release took so long. I believe my bottle date was August 2013 unless I'm reading it wrong. Just seems odd to sit on a fruited beer that long. Were they just waiting on the Brett to get in the zone that they liked? I don't know. Just seems like that one would be worth an "oh by the way, we held them because..."

No, it doesn't. I don't want to have to harrass my trustee into sending stuff when it's not a convenient time for him or when I don't have a full case of beer to ship.

(Also, FDR is terrible, but that has nothing to do with infection.)

Why the hell is Mischmishmish the same limit for Hoarders as regular society members? Shenanigans!

Fair enough...to each their own. It made me feel better and interested to try them (especially the RDF), so I ordered them and should have them in hand my early next week. My trustee was picking up her own as soon as possible, so picking mine up that trip wasn't a big deal, but I don't know your relationship with your trustee.

I am not as excited for FDR so only picked up 1 bottle to split with another RS member, but at least it isn't infected I guess.

Some people seem to like it. I'm not particularly a fan of Sailor Jerry, which appears to be what most people say the spice profile is akin to, but those that enjoy spiced rum have all reported to being big fans. Taste is subjective, so saying something is outright terrible when others have reported enjoying it seems wrong.

    Have you even tried it?

So... statements that a beer is good can be made without qualifications, but statements that it's bad require a disclaimer of "in my subjective opinion, your tastes may vary". Is that right?

And, yes, I've tried both, thanks to someone from CA who brought them to Saturday's de Garde release.

The statement "FdR is terrible" versus "I tried FdR and thought it was terrible" have different connotations. It just sounded like you were bashing without having tried it. It goes both ways, for good and bad opinions, not just one. Now that I know you've tried it, I know it was an educated opinion. I for one won't have an opinion either way because I'm not going to try it because it doesn't sound to my liking (not a spiced rum fan).

Do you think "XYZ is great" and "I tried XYZ and it was great" have different connotations?

I'll grant that I probably could have stated that they had showed up at a bottle share, given that I was also complaining about the added risk of buying these beers via a trustee. I still hold that it's a given that taste is more-or-less subjective and that it's implied that anything said about whether a beer is good or bad is an opinion.

Looks like 3x Cognac Sucre has become 2x + 1x Portuguese brandy. Not that I'm complaining. Anybody know if we'll get a chance to buy more of these variants?

Edit: more specifically the Cognac variant, since I suspect Portuguese brandy will be available based on being RS and HS.

    Per the email this morning:
The odd thing is that it says "We also have 3 exclusive, Hoarders Society variations" but then only names Cognac and Portuguese Brandy. I'm guessing it was just a brainfart when writing the email, but caught my eye.

Also, that only leaves New American Oak (which the Preservation Society is supposed to get as well) and Tequila for remaining expected variants.

Oh, damn, I missed that crucial last sentence. Also, the post on the previous page makes it sound like Portuguese brandy is RS/HS, but I dunno where that info came from.
