Wouldn't be surprised if they follow Deschutes' lead with something along the lines of "best by date" or other disclaimer.

Their newest batch on tap is 10, in bottles I believe it's 9. Just to set the record straight they didn't exactly say it was a diacetyl bomb, they said something like the brewers noticed an undesirable amount of diacetyl. Good brewers tend to have high standards when it comes to their product so maybe it's not offensive. On the other hand with so many people reporting high levels of diacetyl in their beers who knows what an "undesirable amount" is.

I had the same assessment about a bottle of Batch 60 I popped a week ago. The hops are dropping fast and there is a lick on diacetyl on the end. I love Batch 60, it's a shame to see it transform into anything else.

I had Surette on draft this weekend (I would assume batch 10 based on what you said) and it tasted great to me.

    Thanks for the insight.

IMHO, any "undesirable amount" of diacetyl is unacceptable in beers costing $6-up for a 375. This will change my buying and aging habits for sure.

Can we expect more available Cellar Reserve memberships next go around with their diacetyl problem?

Are they brewing their own now? Or still contracting? I'm interested to see how brewing in-house affects their product, if at all

As of Saturday they're still "a month away" from brewing at the source. Still brewing off site...

Anyone know where each beer was brewed? It may or may not make any difference whatsoever, but I was just curious.
I know they've used both Prost and River North. Anywhere else (not counting one-offs and such)?

I thought they were brewing at Epic, but I could be wrong.

From what I heard their relationship with Prost became tarnished and most of their brewing is being done at Epic.

Not to derail but, Does anyone else feel like CS may have tried to take on too much too early? I have never seen a brewery take so long to get up and running when it is on the top of a priority list. Young artisan breweries are pumping out new and interesting beer every couple months and CS has a lot of the same but nothing like prairie, JK, HF etc coming out so often. With their brewery, barrel room, and distribution co it seems they have a ton going on and can't imagine trying to focus with all that myself.

I am just really glad to be a cellar reserve member so I can get get everything they have to offer.

They definitely do have a lot of fingers in pies (is that an expression?) and their MO relies on time, something that is solidly linked with patience. I don't know why they aren't brewing in house yet. Seems expensive to contract this long. Still, rushing beer to market is the worst thing for them, methinks

Definitely not rushing anything this year, as far as the cellar reserve is concerned. Which isn't a bad thing, compared to last year, which was a shitty year for them, IMO.

I don't see why this is tolerated from a brewery with so much hype behind it. I have seen local brewers get the cold shoulder for much less. I haven't enjoyed a beer as much as I did wwbi from these guys, and that's been a looong time ago. I just don't get why CS gets a pass for this crap when everyone else out there would have had to close up their shop for the same issues.

Because when they are on point there is not much else that compares.
