the 2014 list of beers has been released More info here: http://festivalmondialbiere.qc.ca/en/festivals/mondial_de_la_biere_montreal_2014/ was hoping for some more exciting stuff from the states
Hmmmm...still a tickers delight if you just want to get new beer but...top three I'd like to try Bzart Lambiek Red Racer Imperial IPA Stout a la Rhubarbe et Pamplemousse
Really? Not the best DIPA BC produces, but it is pretty damn good (although I have not had this years release yet).
It is maltier than some of the others, but I quite liked it last year. So far this year most here feel that Persephone (a brand new brewery) has made the best DIPA followed by Driftwood's Twenty Pounder. Persephone has a very Pliny quality to it.
I'm much more into the paler, malt-nearly-absent, lower SRM DIPAs, so that may be why. Certainly wouldn't turn one down, but wouldn't go out of my way for one.
Yeah I think this is an important point when talking about IPAs that's too often overlooked - I think most people fall into one of those two camps. On one side, you've got CC IIPA, Heady, and Moralite - on the other, Pliney, Persephone DIPA & Le Castor Yakima IPA. I'm definitely more partial to the second group too.
Fully agree, I like both styles but tend to favour a more balanced malt side and fall into the heady, morality line.
Moralite is an IPA at 6.5%, the thing about the Mondial is the offsite events. The looks fine to me, I am not attending as I don't like large festivals.
Nothing interesting from the US and a few from Canada but Mondial proves its name by bringing in unknowns and a few gems from other countries. Good thing about it is it`s pay as you go but Chambly supplants this festival IMO,
I had never heard of Persephone before, but if you say it's better than Twenty Pounder, which is really great, I'll keep an eye for it.
You might be able to still find some - try BC, Firefly or Legacy. It wasn't a large batch and once gone won't be around again until likely Sept/Oct when the hops are being farmed again.
I have to go to Montreal once a year anyways, so I will do it the Thursday, but hearing tepid response from other BAs, locals about going. If some of the better Brazilian beers on, it would be a worthwhile one day.
