I've been looking forward to the latest Heavy Machinery release (Half IPA) for a few months. I grabbed a four pack today and opened one. It tasted different than last year, I'd guess a hop change, perhaps Falconer's or Meridian subbed in for something. Or maybe I'm crazy. What are other people thinking? Can @Austinbeerworks chime in?
Given my lack of psychological training, I am not qualified to call you crazy. But I can say that the recipe has not changed from last year. Still lots of Citra. I do, however, think this year's batch of Citra is slightly different than last year's. I find it to be slightly less tropical and a little more simcoe-dank.
I had two cans last night and thought it was delicious. Nothing like a super-fresh, clean, hoppy beer. Thank you ABW!
This is definitely the most enjoyable of the series for me. I wish this would replace fire eagle as the @Austinbeerworks year-round IPA. So good!
Four hours is too far for me to drive. I believe the time has arrived for an expansion. Laredo Beerworks? I nominate myself Chief Executive Taster and Director of High Fives.
Hey @Austinbeerworks, I seem to remember you saying that there would be two releases of the Half IPA this year. Is the second release coming soon? Is there still some sitting around Austin?
Excellent timing. The next batch is pretty much ready to go. We'll be packaging and releasing it next Wednesday.
So I know this goes fairly quick but will I have any issues finding this if I go to Austin Fri/Sat and it is released Wed or will I be fine?
Had Half IPA at the brewery on Saturday. Best pint of that beer Ive ever had. Must've been right out of the tank.
You should be fine. We're doing less cans and more draft for this run, but there should still be plenty left this weekend.
Happy to hear it! We just transferred the new batch this morning so that was the 1st batch you had on tap. Beer always tastes better at the brewery (if the brewery is anal about line and glassware cleaning (which we are)).
Well you fooled me! Im sure the beer staying the same temperature also helped preserve it. I guess Ill come back in a couple weeks to see if the next batch wows me even more!
I assume this is still in 4 packs? Same offer as last time - if there are any Houstonians headed to Austin this weekend and would be willing to pick me up 2 x 4 packs, I will pay for one for you. Out of town this weekend (will be in smuggling good beer back to my family in Canada while attending a wedding - they are psyched about getting a suitcase full of sours and IPA's I am bring for them), but live in the loop and can meet up next weekend (21st-ish). BM me.
