Philly Beer Week 2014 Thread (w/ area debuts, highlights, etc)

Definitely hitting the Funky Buddha Tap Takeover on 6/6 at BRU, as well as one of the Cigar City Takeovers that same day (just waiting on the draft lists). Surly is going to be a can't miss opportunity!

 

I smell DB Hunahpu. Heavy notes of Philadelphia waft from its black surface...

 

So are Surly and FB going to be mosh pits then? I never really ran into a crowd last year, but back then I was just hunting Bell's, Founders, and Firestone Walker as the breweries I've heard of but never had.

Surly event says "Cans to go" . I wonder how much they will charge and how many per person you can purchase. Hopefully it will be cheaper then buying it online. Which for me comes out to like $23-$24 for a 4 pack of Furious. (includes shipping).

 

I'd expect it to be about just that much. Maybe $25/4pk.

 

Where does it say cans to go? I'm a little slow and don't see that so can you post a link to where you saw it? I don't even see the Surly events listed on the official philly beer week page.

Does this mean that you will soon be able to find Surly beers in the Philly areas ? or is this only for Philly beer week ?

 

They now have a distributor for MN, but I do not know what that means for any PA distribution. One offs happen a lot for PBW and if it was going to lead to distribution here it would probably take several years to come to fruition, kinda like Deschutes did.

 

From what I heard they got a 10 day registration from the PLCB so they could serve during PBW only.

Could be, although I've been to events that I thought would be slammed that were not all that heavily attended. Last year, Prohibition had BBPt5, Edward, and a RR beer that I wanna say was Temptation, and I went expecting a shitshow. Tapped at 6 and hardly anybody was there. I realize Brandy Barrel Huna is another level, but people rarely seem to flip their shit over non-sours here, except of course for CBS at PoPE 2 years ago. Now THAT was a shitshow. Only other event I've been too that was as nuts as that was Lost Abbey at Nodding Head last year.

Actually I agree that it won't be as bad as everyone thinks. I'll certainly give it a go.

 

I can show you several different places where the world can see it, so don't try to put that evil on me!

 

Damn, I really wanted to go to this one this year. Any strategy to make sure I get what I am trying to taste?

 

Isn't one of the purposes of this thread to post where events are going to be and what they are having, instead of keeping information for ones self, especially when all I have to do is search for it myself. It is not like any of this is hidden from certain people.

I am looking forward to hopefully having the opportunity to try Huna, Darkness, etc...
