    *aw, c'mon, wait for it*

    This is happening soon...
I've got this massive beer warming up a bit before I open it...
Based on my experiences with Cuir, Fruet, and Bois, it's gonna be pretty fucking awesome...

    *time passes*

    Happening now!

The Bruery's Sucre ("sugar") old ale aged in bourbon barrels, honoring the traditional 6th year anniversary gift of candy.
I'm not gonna lie - it didn't blow me away per se, but as I've noted in my review, perhaps I'm just jaded. I've enjoyed the Cuir, Fruet, and Bois - all relatively fresh, as was this - lots of fruits and bourbon, lush and boozy. Worth the $34? Maybe. It warmed really well, as this type of ale should, and my enjoyment increased as time passed - perhaps the alcohol content had a hand in that? Warmer boozy fruits taste better than cooler ones, and the richness became more evident. A real fine sipper, but I'm thinking Fruet will remain my favorite (as far as "palate memory" serves). If you can afford it, and enjoy bourbon barrel-aged ales (old ales in particular), I'm sure you won't be disappointed. But if this is a bank-breaking item, and you've had the Fruet or Bois, and you aren't a compulsive booze-hound (like me :stuck_out_tongue:), you will probably be able to live with yourself if you take a pass. That said, booze-hounds and BBA old ale fans better grab one fast  - my store sat on Bois and Fruet and even Cuir for a while - but this they only got a few bottles of...

Get 'em, Lemmy, you beautiful ************, you!

    Cheers, NBS!

Thankfully for MN and WI we have plenty of good beer to help us through the long cold winters. Minneapolis is ranked the #1 coldest major city in the US and Madison is #3 by the weather channel... Yep, beer.

    Greetings, fellow NBSers,
Partly cloudy and in the low 60s today. About an hour ago I was walking around downtown Spokane and saw no trace of the rain and thunderstorms that have been predicted for today. Apart from my walk, most of the day has been spent at home split between reading an extremely interesting (so far) book and carrying out mundane cleaning and maintenance tasks. After lunch, I went with an "Imperial Saison" from Selkirk Abbey, brewed about a half hour east of where I live. I picked it up at the brewery last fall ( I think) and forgot about it:
    http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/28798/96434/?ba=woemad
The wait may have allowed the alcohol to recede somewhat ( I suspect this was quite "hot" when I picked it up), but it didn't seem to have been affected otherwise. Interesting, but I found the carbonation to be a little low.

I buy most of my beers at Huckleberry's which is about 6 blocks from where I live. Frequently, I have gone in and found 90% of what's there are beers I have already tried. Sometimes it bums me out but I suppose it's not the worst problem. I've had friends who have lived in places where they would have KILLED for just a couple of new (or even just good) beers available.

Wait, what? I haven't reviewed that yet? Hell, even cavedave has a review of that brew! It's great, I've reallyliked/loved everything Selkirk has put out so far. I'll have to see if I've got another bottle stashed.

So, I "Wander"ed over to the newest brewery that has opened here in Hamstertown, and am having this brew: http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/34416/121550/?ba=beertunes. As mentioned, the brewer isn't quite sure where he's going to take this beer, flavor-wise, in the future, but it's pretty good right now. And a bit of the tragically underappreciated Don Rich on guitar here:

Why? Does it taste like a weasel? If I were to buy it what could I expect for aromas and flavors? I have seen it on the shelf for $6.99 a single, so I am intrigued to know more about it.

Great pic but can you link your review or tell us a bit about the beer. What makes us different from WBAYDN is that little bit of description and chit chat. =)

This is one malty American Amber. It is heavy with roasted malts, caramel, and some grain with toasted nut like notes. It also has a bit of earthiness to it; I would not call it sweet, just malty. It is decent when you are looking for something that lacks much in the way of hops. Has one of the heavier mouth feels for an American Amber, usually they seem watered down to me.

I hear you and can relate. Eastern Washington may not be as consistently cold as MN, but here in Spokane, winter is generally like living in a grey cave - and unlike the Seattle area, we don't generally get temperate winters.

    DENIZEN OF DOPPLEBOCK SUNDAY!!!

    My rating: 3.68/-4.2%

    I underrated it because I don't know what I'm doing.

Seriously, it's a solid dopplebock and looks just about like beer Nirvana liquified ... red, dark, clear, big head -- looks like a classic German lager. And the taste and feel are fantastic. I'm not a huge fan of the dark-malt tastes that lean in the direction of raisins/licorice, and this sucker has some big-time dates/figs notes to it, which is leaning toward raisins/licorice.

It DOES have a hint of that peat taste, so the "smoked" in smoked dopplebock here isn't a crock. It's a little old-ale/scottish-ale like. A little.

    Here, pontificate this:

Karbach is a blessing for us here in Texas. We've got others brewing some great stuff, and Karbach is right there with some of the best.

A final goodbye peek-in from Midnight the Cat, who has had a fight with our neighborhood outdoor cat, two minor surgeries on a busted-up ear at the vet's and about 3 miserable weeks in the cone of shame since his last NBS appearance (but he's back!).

(look right ... Midnight is watching you pontificate)

Everybody have a good week ... and enjoy those new beers!

    Cheers!

Wow. Unless I was hallucinating (always a possibility), I think that when I posted my review, I saw Cavedave's and he cited you as his provider of St. Joseph. I'm a little disturbed by the notion that you might be slackin'

New American IPA Sunday (week 482)
Beauty day here, great to work in such great weather this morning at the recycle facility, and after to hit the woods in continued pursuit of the delicious fungal friends seen just out of the bag, and in the second picture frying with bacon to be be enjoyed with pasta tonight. Worked up quite a sweat today, despite the almost fall like temps, and this beer is hitting the spot. Not a wow beer, but a decent offering from Ithaca for sure. Hope you also have a Great American Beer in your glass. Cheers!

I'll fill in the blanks: it's awesome.

Specifically, there is a pretty big dose of coffee, and a good amount of roasted barley. I had this shortly after the Beer Geek Breakfast, and I liked it significantly more. Very solid, non-BA stout.

My bad. It is just awesome. If you are a barley fan and love coffee than this beer will not disappoint. It is perfectly balanced but yet not on a overly alcohol tip. Just a well made and well thought out beer. Nice medium mouthfeel that gives a bit of smoothness with a touch of silk. Definitely a little pricey but worth it. Mikkeller nails stouts hands down.

I love the notion of something tasting like a weasel - and who the hell would know, unless said individual were a wolf or bear (probably an NBS first...).
