Top 3 (I'm only counting the mainstays from the big boys):
    Coors Original
    Miller High Life
    Schlitz

    Worst 3:
Anything that ends in "light" or "lite." There's just no need for 'em.

Michael, it is my guess (based upon information below and my palate) that there is some adjunct (corn) in Negra Modelo.

    From Crown Imports website:

“To achieve its unique taste, Negra Modelo uses a greater quantity of malt, the finest hops, a special yeast and the purest water. It is a delicious, creamy, full-flavored dark brew with a pleasant malt aroma and dry hop flavor that has a smooth mellow taste.

4.2% alcohol by weight, 5.4% alcohol by volume, 0 grams of fat, 170 calories per 12-oz bottle.”

    From a BYO article:

    “Corn Adjunct

Most Mexican Vienna lagers contain some corn in their formulation. As a homebrewer, you could add up to 20% corn — in the form of grits, flaked maize or brewers corn syrup — to your Vienna lager. You’ll need to perform a cereal mash if you use grits, but flaked maize can be stirred right into the mash and brewers syrup can be added in the boil. Adding this adjunct will lighten the color and body of the beer compared to an all-malt beer.”

IMHO, something like 20% corn (in particular corn grits or flaked maize) can actually play a positive role in beer making. As you know, I am a BIG fan of the Classic American Pilsner style.

    Cheers!

Man, its been over a year since I started this post. I completely forgot about it. Well I have some changes since April 2013....got to move Miller High Life (cans only...bottles aren't as tasty), into the #1 spot. Actually RR didn't taste all that great last time I had one.

    Worst:
    1. Hamm's (wish I could have tried this before Stroh's/Pabst/Miller got their hands on it)
    2. Busch
    3. Any other various sub-premium light beers

I'll also give a shout out to a local MPLS brewer, 612 Brew, who makes an excellent pre-prohibition style AAL, but they're draft only.

    3. Discount Lights (Keystone, Natty, etc.)

I feel bad placing Yuengling in this category. Sure, it uses a small amount of adjunct to lighten the body but it is fundamentally different in some respects to the other beers listed. Most obvious is the color differences- compare a Yuengling and a PBR and the Yuengling is obviously darker. Next comes the taste- while Yuengling undoubtedly has the standard, relatively uninspiring "beer" taste, it is not as sweet as a PBR or Coors.

If I were to replace Yuengling with a beer more akin to the others listed, I'd probably put Hamm's.

Well, I guess that Crown website does imply that it could use corn. I am basing my recollection on the George Fix recipe for a Graf style Vienna, which is all malt and which he compared to Negra Modelo. That was published a while ago, though, and things could have changed in that time.

I do agree that, used properly, corn could definitely play a positive role in certain styles. I've mentioned this before, but I have also been enjoying a very nice CAP lately:
    http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/34656/121407/?ba=TongoRad

Unfortunately, it's a small draught-only brewery in an out of the way area. That's kind of like the other CAPs that I have run across, none have been bottled, so I guess the style isn't really gaining any traction yet. Hopefully we will start to see more bottled versions like the Straub 1872 Lager that you have written about previously/

I have actually not tried it since it was made in Latrobe. I do remember it being decent enough, but I was also of barely legal drinking age ... and that was quite a while ago.

I can drink high life, Pabst, grain belt premium, Coors, a few more. Bud changed for the worse after in bev bought them out, before that it was OK. If the Mexicans like negro modelo and dos equis amber count, they are my favs.

Generally hate anything light, and rolling Rock might be the worst of all time

If you have PBR in the best category, you are a hipster. Nothing wrong with that, it's just true.

To the poster above me - I'm definitely not a hipster (not that I would care if I was, I still don't get hipster hate and think it's kind of dumb). PBR is a good AAL. Pretty much all there is to say about that.

Corona is the worst of the worst beers. Many AALs have something appealing about them - I had a Bud the other day for the first time in ages out on the golf course (a great place to drink AALs, by the way), and I was surprised by how fruity it is, and not in a bad way by any means. I think it's probably better straight from the can than poured. But Corona - man, that stuff just has zero appeal. At least Natty Light can get you drunk on the cheap because it's fairly high in alcohol, but Corona - blech. I'd rather drink water.

I spent an hour and a half drinking six cans of all the BMC lights and their "premium" option with my friend in an AAL worst-of-the-worst bracket. PBR was the seventh can.

PBR has flavor compared to the others. The head stuck around longest on the PBR. It kept its carbonation. It actually tasted like something (grain, grass, and corny sweetness) but that was way more than the watery stuff from the other options, or the straight up ass flavor from Miller Genuine Draft. By the time we had made it through the other six beers, the PBR was a damn treat.

    Full disclosure, our results were:
    1. PBR
    2. Cools Banquet
    3. Miller Light
    4. Coors Light
    5. Budweiser
    6. Bud Light
    7. Miller Genuine Draft

Rolling Rock is the only beer I absolutely cannot drink, never could. There is an unnatural taste to it that I can't get past.
