Does anyone else find it odd that Troeg's is always included in these Philly lists? It's 100 miles away, same as NYC. I'm pretty sure nobody in Harrisburg/Hershey considers themselves part of the Philly metro area.

Many publications, websites etc. list Troegs as a Philly "local" and i typically do find it odd, yet I find it especially odd coming from Philly Beer Scene considering the very incomplete suburban PA and NJ coverage typically provided.

Same thing goes for Dogfish Head. (No wins this year but they are included in the whole "Philly Beer Scene" family)

This might be because at the time when the magazine started there were less production breweries around than there are now. Or that Troegs and DFH made beers too good to be included even through they were over 100 miles away.

Plus Troegs and DFH send a good amount of beer this way and Philly probably had the bars that were receptive to their beers early on. Heck, Sam bought ingredients from Home Sweet Homebrew during the early brewpub days.

Pale Ale of the Year : Perpetual IPA ? I am I missing something? When did it become a Pale Ale? Or is it just semantics?

It's an Imperial Pale Ale, not an India Pale Ale

Perpetual IPA (Imperial Pale Ale, not India Pale Ale). In our constant evolution as a brewery, we’ve developed a drive to meld artisanal and mechanical. Perpetual IPA utilizes our hopback and dry-hopping to engineer a bold Imperial Pale Ale. We’re always testing the boundaries of modern brewing.

“It's an Imperial Pale Ale, not an India Pale Ale.”

OK, I will bite. What distinguishes an Imperial Pale Ale vs. an India Pale Ale to you?

For completeness, permit me to point out that the verbiage of “Pale Ale” exists in both style descriptions: Imperial Pale Ale and India Pale Ale.

    Cheers!

I'm not familiar with Kehoe's work, but it's impressive if he raises more money than Tom Peters from Monks and his fundraisers.

There was a thread about this on the main board last week. http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/imperial-pale-ale.179336/

General consensus is it's an IPA no matter what you want the I to stand for.

That would be suprising. I'm guessing the award is not based on straight dollar figures.
