GREAT suggestion! Wonderful bourbon stout! Tends to be high on coffee, but I like that!

If you're looking for no Bourbon flavor, but big on the roasty malts, coco, and coffee....

Founders Breakfast Stout, Terrapin Wake 'n' Bake, Ballast Point Victory at Sea.

These are good suggestions. I would definitely go with FBS if you can still get it, because KBS tastes (unsurprisingly) like FBS with bourbon added in. Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout is a great deal for the money, so I would check that one out regardless of whether it's similar to KBS.

Came to say this, although like someone else stated, it stresses the coffee more than KBS and has far from excessive bourbon flavor. I see a lot of posts for beers that have no barrel aging... why??

only wake n bake is semi close some say. I would not, KBS is kind of unique, though I did a clone and my local micro did 1 damn close.

I've said this before, but Hoppin' Frog BA D.O.R.I.S is comparable/easier to get. It's on the shelves in MA now.

Agree with the above on Dragon's Milk or Big Bad Baptist. I also thought Blue Mountain Dark Hollow tasted a bit like KBS, but not sure how far or where all they distribute.

Dragon's Milk and several of the others mentioned here are super heavy on bourbon flavor though, which OP said he wasn't into...

Alesmith's Speedway Stout, Dieu du Ciel's Peche Mortel, Terrapin Wake n Bake, Founders Breakfast Stout are all more available than KBS. I've had all but Speedway and they're all great beers with very good coffee flavor. (I'm sitting on the 2011 and 2013 Speedways I have, hoping to find a 2012 for a mini-vert)

You can also get a Randal Jr from Dogfish Head, get any quality stout and steep it with some coffee beans for a little bit to get the desired coffee flavor; this also allows you to control how much coffee flavor and what kind of coffee is used.

The last time that I had Dragon's Milk I had difficulty tasting the bourbon, and never have I experienced a bourbon bomb from this beer. Usually it's middle-of-the-road for that flavor. But I think there may be some inconsistency in the batches that are released.

Had a Sixteen by Central Waters thanks to a Wisconsin friend yesterday. It was the closest thing I've had to a KBS and better. Big Bad Baptist is too chocolatey and not enough bourbon to be compared to a KBS IMO

FBS, Peche Mortel, and Terrapin Wake n Bake are the best, most readily available coffee forward stouts. At least around these parts. You won't be disappointed in any of them.

Central waters Peruvian morning when it's fresh and the infection hasn't taken over. Central waters bourbon barrel stout is also very very good.
