Calling people dumbfucks over this phrase seems a little brash to me though, although people can have different opinions on things it seems a little heavy how people respond to this phrase. It is meant to be an ironic phrase, do people get that or are they incapable of understanding irony? If you don't like somebody referring to a beer as a turd in an exercise of irony maybe you really do need to lighten up. Let's see if you all can take it.

Victory at Sea is a shelf turd where I live, Victory at Sea is a shelf turd where I live, Victory at Sea is a shelf turd where I live, Victory at Sea is a shelf turd where I live, Victory at Sea is a shelf turd where I live, Victory at Sea is a shelf turd where I live.

I hope no one had to rip out their hair because I did this, then again if you were one of those people, maybe I hope you did.

    LIGHTEN UP!

True. I thought the comparison was funny.
Can't believe how many BAs are getting their fists angered over it.

There are more important things to worry about in the beer world, like why do I not have one in my hand right now?

Beer is really a fun hobby outside of these forums sometimes.

    they're up for grabs...

I have no idea what you're talking about :grinning:

EDIT: Mods-if me posting that the beers are "up for grabs" is against the TOS, please delete my post and I apologize. It was my understanding that saying "up for grabs" is not an ISO-type post. Please accept this apology in advance if I am wrong. I did not mean to break the TOS, and I am sorry (if I have mis-understood the TOS and what I was told, and that saying "up for grabs" is against the TOS)

Could always work out a trade of sorts if you wanted it bad enough?

I work at a liquor store in OKC(The Well Wine and Spirits). We age a lot of beers so we can have side by side vintages. We're aging DNR, Prairie Pirate, Noir, Vanilla, BOMB, etc. Aging Anchors big bottles of Christmas. I think having some old bottles on the shelf are nice. not turds :slight_frown:

Verbal irony (or sarcasm) is meant to be used for humorous or rhetorical effect. I feel that its only use here is to confuse.
Case in point. Do you like Victory at Sea? Or do you dislike it? I have absolutely no idea. I don't know what you're trying to say. Of course this is ironic because I really don't care, but still, since you wasted the keystrokes it would be nice to have actually communicated, don't you think?

I think the alleged dumbfuckery was over claiming that "turd" does not imply shit-like. That the implication of shittiness is sarcastic doesn't change the fact that turd=shit, and it's pretty silly to claim otherwise.

That aside, nobody seemed "outraged" at the term, so it was a drama queen move to act as though that was the case. He seemed more outraged at the outrage that he imagined.

I'm scratching my head trying to figure out how the FRESH IPA the OP bought can be a shelf turd...

I just assumed "shelf turd" meant stuff like all Rogue bombers and 9 month old (and aging) Hopstoopid

I'm curious how we're supposed to refer to a beer that people "really" think of as a turd?? We might have to flip the flipped script... Maybe we can say a beer is "amazeballs" when it's the worst drain pour ever? I'm sure most will get the irony and humor of it all...

Which is why agree other people it is a stupid term. People can't even figure out how to use it properly.

Does Samichlaus 2011 vintage count. It was only 6 a btl. Also, Avery Mephistopheles comes to mind. It's been sitting for over 6 months. I'll bite eventually
