Sorry if I came across as accusatory or some other such, t'was not my intention. That was simply my first (and only) impression. I enjoyed it, I just enjoyed Resin more since they both had qualities I liked, Resin just seemed to have more of those same qualities. It was a couple years ago since I had my first (and only) Bengali, so I'll definitely revisit because...

    ...this just sounds really good.

Liking the sounds of these. I love that you guys are both unafraid to continually tweak recipes to improve them and do not agonize over perfectly reproducing classic styles. I think these attributes not only serve to set you apart from other breweries that, for the most part, keep their proprietary recipes as consistent as possible, but it also helps to ensure that you are constantly improving and innovating. I can see how some might not appreciate your style, but personally, I love it. Keep doing it!

    DO IT. :grimacing:
I'd love to see Sixpoint's take on a TenFidy rival. Big, thick, Imperial Stout(ish), in a can - sign me up!

I finally was able to try Hi-Res and I enjoyed it quite a bit. This is coming from a guy who is not the biggest IPA/DIPA fan to begin with since I prefer my beers dark and roasted. I really enjoyed how sweet it was, the apricot, orange peel, etc flavors. Hops seemed a bit more subdued than I expected, which is a good thing for me, but I wonder how much of this is due to the fact that it's a few months old and seems to have been sitting on a shelf (not refrigerated) all this time. I'll be interested to try it fresh next year to see if I still enjoy it as much with a stronger hop presence.

Anyway, I'm actually a bit off topic because my favorite brew was actually also 3Beans, but again, I'm extremely partial to similar styles, which is in part why Hi-Res surprised me.

Unfortunately, Sixpoint said the next batch of Hi-Res will be a different recipe to "make it better". So i'm not sure how close to apples to apples it will be with this year's to compare with. I sure hope better isn't actually worse since I really enjoyed this years recipe. It's my favoriate DIPA by far! I'm so sad. :slight_frown:

They're mad scientists that have said (or at least the rep who comments here on BA has) that Hi-Res is about creating a hop juice effect rather than a bitterness bomb, so I'd say as long as they devote themselves to that approach (which they already pulled off amazingly well) while dialing in some of the other qualities that perhaps take away from that, then I think it's safe to say they can make an improvement that still tastes "the same, but better."

Really no reason to be sad - the changes will be incremental, and not a complete overhaul of the beer. Think of it as "microevolution" as opposed to "macroevolution" :-)

If that's really what they're going to be doing then I'm sure I'll be happy. I really don't want hop bitterness bombs, I'm not into those beers anymore, which is really part of the reason I liked Hi-Res. For 110 IBU it doesn't taste nearly as bitter as I thought it would, and accomplishing that must be quite a feat.

I'll be really interested to see what we have next year. I'll have to get to a tasting at release next year so I can try it fresh.

that's exactly what the intention was...and looking forward to your impression in January 2015

by this point the 3Beans is about 17 months old...glad to hear it has held up well

This is getting ridiculous now. Stop being so good Sixpoint you're making others look bad.

I remember loving the original bottling of Bolshoi when I had it when it came out, when I was pretty new to the craft beer game. Had it again at EBF a few years later when they rebrewed it and still enjoyed it, though it wasn't quite as great as I remember it being.

Other than that, I've really enjoyed the BA/Imperial Otis, as well as the Gorilla Warfare Coffee Porter. Both great beers.

3 bean was a big deal for me, and I love brews like Bengali (of which one of my favorite haunts jut got a keg of, and its been pretty good for me so far!)

however, Ill have to go with the classic Resin as my favorite 6-point brew.
I preferred it to hi-res and its one of my personal favorites when I need a hop-heavy beer.

I'm still constantly looking for new things from 6-point.
More brew releases in Florida please : )

We are no longer currently canning at Lion Brewery. We currently brew out of Brooklyn NY at our own facility and Memphis TN at an alternating proprietorship to handle our limited, regional distribution footprint in the United States and select international markets.

did you try this year's Apollo?

Sounds like you love the dark beers. We are working on a few new formulations in this realm...can't wait to share them.

We love it down there, and look forward to doing some future events as well.

yup, the kegs and the cans were produced around the same time - so that means wherever you tried it had it archived for a long time! hopefully it was stored at cellar temperatures...

That sucks about 3bean. One of the top porters I have ever had. Shocked it isnt being canned any more.
