The Locals HINTS AND HAULS THREAD

I always liked those grid logic puzzles growing up, so I have a giant 26x26 matrix in Excel. I started doing this with the last BIF I was in where there was a mini-BIF to guess who each person's target was.

I've identified 4 senders targets including my own. So not many yet. (and most of those 3 were obvious if you're paying attention) I'm down to 2 possibilities on 6 other senders, and still have 8 possibilities for my own sender. This is just from publically available clues and some other information that I may know about some of you.

 

The barleywine one? Yeah I didn't even try to do the sherlock mini... This one has had some pretty glaring hints so if I took the time to go through the thread I could probably identify a handful of senders, but it's just more time than I care to spend.

 

Yeah. I think I'm going to come in about 70% right on that one. Curious to see who can beat me.

Yep -- ditto on the grid logic puzzles, and I have the exact same matrix (in excel). This is my first BIF so don't have MUCH personal info. There is a chance I may have screwed up on Tee2Grn's target (I had done a lot of work before I knew Rspauldi existed, and didn't feel like redoing everything), but if I have that one right then I think I have identified 8 sender/receiver pairs (including mine from both directions), and have what I think is a really good guess on at least four more.

I've also eliminated a few more of your potential senders than you have, but again I could have easily screwed up.

 

From TX, you're going to want to try St. Arnold (Endeavour, any of their Bishop's Barrel series), of course Jester King, but don't forget about Karbach... they make some solid stuff (especially Hop Delusion and their FUN series beers like Bourbon Barrel Hellfighter)

 

I'm pretty conservative. If there's even the slightest chance it could refer to someone else, I don't mark it off. I also haven't marked off adjoining states even though it's (hopefully) unlikely that they'd be paired. I also haven't chased some vague or super time consuming clues (like looking up people's BA start dates, or trying to figure out town sizes).

 

Hah, funny. And I still don't 100% know who my sender is! (but I gave up a while ago)

You made out like a bandit on that BIF!

 

I did! I think I ended up shipping about 7-8 boxes of beer out in April and getting zero in return from all the March Madness BIFs I was in and a couple of mini-BIFs I ran... it all comes back around eventually though!

 

I've got a spreadsheet working on everyone's targets... I think I have some people's senders better narrowed down than they do.

 

Hint 1: Sending that way. (points eastish)
Hint 2: I've only ever been to the airport in your state.
Hint 3: Your states distribution list is longer than my states
Hint 4: You have atleast one want from my state

 

I doubt mine, since I'm down to 3 and those 3 haven't given a ton of hints that would narrow down the field Want more hints people!

By the way, you said previously that you were pretty confident who your own sender is, are you confident enough to posit a guess out loud?

 

You're my sender. I'm the only one in the BIF with 3 major sports teams. EDIT: That's west of you

 

If poorpatz is still on other people's lists though, I'm less confident about him being my sender; I had almost eliminated him when he said that his target had no 'local' wants, the town size/notable residents hints seemed to point pretty directly at me, but I suppose not necessarily only at me. I'm not sure what he includes as local, but I've got HF, Lawson's, and SA Utopias are on my list... I guess I really do have 4 possible options still.
HF and Lawson's don't distribute to my state and are approximately 250 or more miles away so not local, Sam Adams is local but I refuse to pay $179 for a bottle of beer.

 

And yes, I'm purposly releasing my hints slowly and vaguely. I almost put up a couple that would have greatly reduced how many of you it matches. I'll save those for later.

Wow, I didn't realize they were that many miles from you... I think I underestimate how big the New England states are, like in my head I think they're all the size of RI. So if you're saying that HF/Lawson's aren't local, and Utopias doesn't count as a 'local' either, then I'm going back to being pretty sure you're my sender. I'm not completely ruling out the others with a lack of hints, but 'no local wants', the town size, and the notable people all lining up as well as they do seems unlikely to leave many others as options.

Based on this, I've updated my wants to include some that are in fact local, although frankly it's just "I hear good things about Tree House and Trillium, so I picked the most popular/highest rated ones from them"

 

You did say you liked a slow sensual release of hints....

Haven't updated my list in a while but I'm down to 11, (meanwhile someone else is down to 8 so I should check) and also one person is a big lead but one hint confuses me.
