Philly Beer Week 2014 Thread (w/ area debuts, highlights, etc)

Will there be a long line to get in to Tired Hands on Sunday?
What time would anyone recommend getting there?

 

The last time I was there was on a cold Friday night during the winter. They have a "capacity" limit which for at least that night meant only people being seated downstairs. I was shocked after I waited about 15 mins to get in when two people left the bar so we could take their seats. Noboday standing behind the bar on in the front space when you walk in. So, assuming that they follow the same rules, can't imagine how there will not be a ridiculous line if "capacity" means not being able to stand downstairs. I will bet my bottom $$ that there will be people standing in the downstairs area on Sunday so begs the question why they made people freeze their nuts off on that Friday night during the winter.

 

Yes, there will. There was a long line last year and it will undoubtedly be longer this year.

 

I personally just walk from Market East; it is a 35-40 minutes walk for me.

I'm coming to Philly tomorrow and Saturday nights and didn't even realize it'll be PBW. This makes the weekend so much better.

What are your guys' can't-miss events this weekend? Especially Saturday.

 

Didn't realize this was so close. I'm heading it to Union Transfer tomorrow night. Anyone have any recommendations in the area?

 

Anyone know for the special tappings that tired hands will offer on their anniversary in the previous year did they allow growler fills of those beers?

 

Some they allowed, some they did not. For example, St. Oner (1st anniversary beer) you were able to get filled. I would imagine at the very least, you'll be allowed to fill their 2nd anniversary beer. They're offering cheap pints all day long like they did last year and had no growler limits last year.

Anyone going to Capone's for founders?

 

How crazy does Capone's get? I'm thinking of heading over in the afternoon for some leftovers.

 

As a lover of Surly beers, I am looking forward to heading to Iron Abbey on Tuesday night. It should be fun times. Although ~$25 for a 4-pk is a tad much, after a couple of pints of their brew, I may be inclined to take some home for others to try.

The Tired Hands thing is interesting. My GF drinks good beer and really enjoys their sours. We have spent inordinate amounts of time at TH and have seen everything from super quiet to crazybatshit kind of stuff. That said, I fully expect to be there with coffee in-hand, before they open, have a few, maybe fill a 1/2 growler, and get the hell out of Dodge before the professionals show up.

Living in NW Philly, selfishly, I am a bit surprised EB+B are not doing anything for PBW. At least, not that I know of...

 

The GF and I will be there tonight as well. Should be a great show. Prohibition Taproom seems like a no-brainer and, hopefully with everything else going on, will not be all too slammed pre-show.

 

I would not expect "leftovers", other than the stuff that is otherwise readily available.
