I had my first three beans in a can this past weekend. I was thinking about making its own thread because of how damn good it was. Well over a year old and easily one of my favorite brews EVER.

Hi-Res is a seasonal, so it WILL be back.

I personally prefer seasonal availability of beers, because I don't want to drink the same beer year round, and now I know that when I get it, it will be fresh

Yes, I realize that. I want all my seasonal favorites year round.

I'd take a late fall 3beans seasonal if that's how we can get it.

Ohe jeez.......you mean a German pilsner? I think making a session IPL (over-hopping and cutting the malt) is a bastardization of a pale lager. Malt is the best part of a pilsner! The hops are just there as a compliment.

    That being said...

I plan on trying their Session Rye IPL.

posting to say a lot of my Sixpoint purchases are made as single cans at various bodega-like establishments around NYC. A lot of places would charge $3/can back when the tall boys were around, which I didn't mind as its only a 50 cent hike from buying the four pack itself. Bought two new slim Sweet Actions on tuesday, and got charged the old price. Obviously this is the retailers issue and not Sixpoints, but I hope bodega owners dont just assume its still the same beer packaged the same way and sold at the same price; going with other brewery bodega price points I hope to be paying somewhere between 2/2.50 for a slim can.

Will also say there is a certain chain of organic markets in Brooklyn carrying the new six packs, at 14.99........This was the same place I stared at boxes of 3 Beans for months while they sat at 17.99....

    A valid critique :-)

I try not to get worked up about labels on beer styles. If a brewer can easily communicate the character of a beer to me by using a hodge podge frankenstein of a style category, fine by me. Session IPL? Gimme gimme gimme.

And I'm just sayin', ahem, @Sixpoint, that I would buy that.

Yes...yes it would. Ideally, every brewery would have a born on date AND a best by date.
But, barring this extremely unlikely possibility, a born on date would be far more effective for determining what we, as drinkers, feel to be appropriate freshness.

This is a delicate balance, isn't it? One of the best things from the brewery end of making a seasonal is that its more likely to be fresh, especially if made in limited quantities that is less than the aggregate demand.

Unfortunately for the consumer it means only having limited access to a beer that they might want to have year round. But then again some say you will always want what you can't have...

agreed... there is a magic formula awaiting with a good IPL...but you can't just cut the malt and jack the hops...

Please let us know who these bodegas are ASAP - they are simply overcharging if they are charging that amount if its more than the 4-packs, we need to stop in there...

We are looking into this... one problem we encountered is that some places make it MANDATORY to have the best before date on it...so at a bare minimum you would need both....

Sounds like an excellent suggestion to me!

I'll be visiting Sixpoint for the first time this upcoming Monday and am very excited to check it out. I'm a tad curious as to how one can go about tasting the beers at the brewery? Is there a "beer token" kind of thing like at Brooklyn Brewery? Just asking out of curiosity. I think it would be very beneficial to include to the bottled on date as well as the best by date, best of both worlds and pleases everyone. Gotta say, I love the new Bengali. Bought a fresh six pack on Long Island that was canned just about a week before I bought it!

Can you elaborate on that? As it seems many large breweries with big footprints use such dating. Are these breweries just not represented in those locations? Is this a state / county thing? A law or just certain retail outlets policies? First Ive heard of such a thing.

Certain countries make it mandatory as its part of their federal regulation to not sell "expired" product to consumers or else there are heavy penalties. Therefore, they make it mandatory that all items have an expiration date (which is sometimes unfairly interchanged with a 'best by' date).

Was in a beer store yesterday and noticed
that Sixpoint put the style of beer on their
box of cans. I wondered for a long time why
the container didn't list the style of beer in
the box, just the name. IMO it can only help
sell their beer if consumers knew what they are
buying. Good job. Think I'll ck them out now
and pick up a few cans knowing what's in there.

Agreed. With so many beer choices now, a beer only has so long to get into my cart. If I have to search for what it is it rarely will make it there.

after reading some of those critics that didnt appreciate the newly released, and very delicious, Sixpoint Jammer I came to the realization that Sixpoint and Shane are really the best.

Though we are privileged to hear from many brewers and owners on BeerAdvocate (i.e. sierranevadabill, stonegreg, thejermis, etc.) there is no brewery or owner that comes across as a true Beeradvocate like Shane @Sixpoint

of course we at beeradvocate are usually the first ones to hear about new Sixpoint releases, but Shane is also here posting in other threads not related to his business on a regular basis. Yes he owns a brewery, but that doesnt stop him from being a regular BA like us. He answers questions and critiques here on BA very quickly and the personal emails we have exchanged are also always responded too very promptly.

So I applaud his efforts and appreciate the new and exciting beers that Sixpoint continues to knock out.

Cheers and good luck to Sixpoint!

I have sadly not seen Sixpoint as prominently since I moved into Baltimore City proper, but they were a staple of my college beer diet. Righteous Rye in particular didn't sell tremendously by the case (PA liquor laws woo), so a shop in Gettysburg deep discounted it and I walked out with two cases for about $30.

So after that I was converted pretty decently. @Sixpoint presence on here has also made me respect the brand a whole lot, particularly in their willingness to discuss praise and criticism equally and seemingly value the input given on various releases. Still, wish I saw their offerings more these days. Jammer sounds like a delight.
