Philly Beer Week 2014 Thread (w/ area debuts, highlights, etc)

Capone's is one of my favorite places (also close to where I live). But it isn't really "spacious" so it will be a zoo for this. Evidenced by past events. Really need to get there early to snag a seat. I would put up with this in order to try CBS tomorrow...but I have to work. Oh well..

 

I've been to Capone's many times, but never for an event. I remember some dos and don'ts as far as where you are able to park. Do you know where it is ok to park if their lot is full?

CBS at Capone's? Not sure I can think of a worse time than that. Does anyone know if it is a fresh keg, or one they have been sitting on for a couple of years? Because if it's the former, it might be worth putting up with the crowd (not to me, but I get it). If it's the latter, people are going to go through an awful lot to be awfully disappointed.

 

Matt said to me a while back that he had been sitting on a keg of it. I'm assuming its this one.

 

Regarding the Tired Hands 2nd Anniversary event on Sunday, June 1 - They open at 12:00, not at 11:00 as indicated under events. I just called Tired Hands and asked the question since I've never known them to open at 11:00. Does anyone know how to get the event corrected?

That's insane and ridiculous and . . . why? Just, why? The beer was already losing a lot of what made it so special less than a year on, 2+ years more and I can't believe it will be anything even close to what it was fresh. That's a shitty way to treat such a highly respected beer. And to what ends? It's not like they won't be super-packed regardless.

Who knows this may be one of the special CBS Capones kegs that has been tapped and untapped 2x. Either way expect old CBS and $8 5oz pours

Barcade's crowd for the kick off is pretty lightly crowded.

 

I would really like to try this but I would also like to not be trampled to death when the doors open.

 

Things will get crazy...that's part of the deal with PBW. But there are so many events, you can (with a bit of prep) go to places where you can avoid some of that. Like tomorrow we're going to an event where you can make advance table reservations. Can't always do that, but I look for those opportunities ahead of time.

 

Rolled into Bainbridge around 11:45 and was surprised that 2 Live vol 2 was still on. Vol 1 kicked but I'm pretty psyched that I got to try this one.

 

@ Capone's. CBS is heavily faded (as expected). Shadow of what it once was. To be honest, even the KBS tasted off to me.

 

I have said, and read elsewhere, that KBS from the two different kegs I've tried this year have been sub-par IMO. From the bottle is a completely different story.
