I don't consider myself to be a quad connoisseur, and I'm not a big Sam Adams fan for the most part, but I really enjoyed Tetravis.

Like it or not, Three Philosophers is a Quad.

Here's a list for the style; there are some good ones on it:

These are ones I've had and enjoyed:
    The Reverend - Avery
    V-12 - Victory
    Allagash 4 - Allagash
    Ovila Quad - Sierra Nevada

The term does get used in Belgium, Préaris Quadrupel for instance is a Belgian beer that clearly uses it in its name. There are just very few beers that fit the quadrupel style in Belgium and the term doesn’t sell that well so it isn’t used very often.

They make two dubbels. 6 and 8 which are just okay.

SN Ovila really surprised me. If the thread's asking about well-made quads, I'd include it. Also, Deschutes' Stoic Quad has been great the two times I've had it on tap (never had a bottle).

I am surprised that Not the Stoic only has two previous mentions in this thread. That is one of the few US made quads that I have ever liked.

Also, the best named US quad has to be Jean-Quad Van Damme from Beachwood...

Sixth Glass also comes in 4-packs, though, which I've seen from $9-12. I usually see 750s of Sixth, Tank 7, Double Wide, Grainstorm etc. for ~$9-10, so very similar to your price.

Never understood their 750mL pricing.. their barrel aged 750s are usually only $1-2 more than their year-rounds like Sixth and Tank 7.

Just had SN Ovila Plum Quad on draft. I thought it was great, lots of complex flavors and very drinkable.

Community Inspiration. I tried it because I love Quads (and BSDA's in a nod to the ongoing debate. It's listed as such but it seems to fit the Quad definition better IMHO) and I like to try local beers so I thought I'd throw a bone to a Texas brewery. Turns out it was NOT a pity, um, mommy-daddy special hug. She was one hot babe!

As a few others have said, Allagash makes fantastic Belgian-style beers and I think Odyssey can stand up to great Belgian examples of the style.

Unless you get hung up on the Belgian Strong Dark Ale vs. Quad thing. In that case, I can't help you.

It amazes me that Boulevard Bourbon Barrel Quad (BBQ) is not a top 250 beer. It is excellent fresh, but is borderline orgasmic after cellaring.

How much time would you say is the "sweet spot"? I'm sitting on a bottle that's about 9 months old. I've had it fresh many a time and have never had the patience to cellar it because of how much I like it fresh...

I aged a particular bottle two years as I recall (mostly because I forgot about it), and loved it.

I just bought a bottle today and drank it. Pretty much fits the BA description for the style and I found it SO much more enjoyable than The Stoic. Thanks for bringing it up on this thread!

I'd say yes, but I wouldn't cellar much more than another year at most. It's a great beer, not sure trade value but when it first came out I know folks who added it as an extra and got huge requests afterwards. I flipping love that Rye Wyne, I have one in my cellar still too. That's probably my favorite beer they've made.
