And InBev/GI, if you're reading this, please start sending some BCBS back out to Washington. Haven't seen it since fall 2010.

If this is what it takes for the Corporate giants to realize the growing market for flavorful beer, and quality and availability is maintained and improved (respectively)..then I am 100% for it...

I'm not giving anyone thanks until they actually deliver. In my neck of the woods, the big impact on BCBS since the acquisition is that none got sent to California at all. So I'll believe these scale claims when they come true.

I couldn't care less if InBev maintained the quality of their GI lineup. As long as they continue to employ heavy-handed distribution tactics that are intended to limit consumer access to other (and often so much better than GI) beers, I will continue to boycott all InBev products.

But this is what big companys do, jack up the price while cutting costs. I would be highly surprised if they didnt take shortcuts to make it easier to produce.

not sure how to take the news. on the one hand it sounds good, on the other hand, remaining practical & paying attention to other trends, most people were of the opinion Van Winkle moving to Buffalo Trace was a great idea. the price has not decreased, and the availability might be slightly better but not much. but more importantly, BT doesn't look like it's going to be able to pull of an undetectable switch. it's pretty clear their wheat bourbon isn't an unnoticeable substitute for S-W or Bernheim.

i know folks are probably like: WTF is this dude going on a whiskey tangent about here. . . but there is a reference point that does tie in. BCBS is aged in bourbon barrels. we're seeing what appears to be a trend of diminishing quality & availability in American whiskey. so i'm skeptical from that viewpoint. i.e. even if InBev's intentions here are noble/honorable, will they simply be ramping up supply using inferior resources?

When it comes to the diminishing quality argument this is one of the better ones I have heard, excellent tangible example as well.

I agree here. If/when true... I'll love it. (it's one of my all-time fav beers) But this year's supply was so short is was silly. Waiting... but not holding my breath

As an Okie who has never had Goose Island, if the tie-in brings their beers to OK, I'm all for it.

What I've always wondered is the availability of the barrels to produce and acquire them on such a mass scale.

Possible sure.. practical in the long run... wouldn't know.

This makes me sad. Craft drinkers are going to be lining up and giving more money to the very company that is making it more difficult for the smaller craft brewers, that we all love, to succeed.

I know I am in the minority when I say this, but there are some things more important than just the taste of the beer in the bottle.

Ironically, sales numbers for BCBS will actually drop, as beer geeks decide to no longer bother hoarding it since it is now permanently available.

And I wish I were more than only half-joking...

quality will be the same until the product has taken two tiers of shelving on the local stores, pushing other small brewers products off the shelf... once they are in and dominant, start pouring in the corn and other adjuncts.......

cheezits taste the same if you buy them cheaply from walmart or pay a few extra cents from the small corner mom and pop store... but like BMC brewers.... Walmart sucks.....

Here her!!!!! I raise my glass to you sir. I will not feed the evil empire.
Goose Island is part of the Evil empire now. Therefore, I will not buy it.
If Inbev acquired Founders, I would go without having another Founders. If they acquired Surly, I would never buy another Furious.
That is my line in the sand.

The adjuncts will start sooner. Inbev does not care about the beer geek buying Goose Island. They care about keeping the inbev dollar when a "Bud" drinker decides he wants to branch out.

Walmart doesn't just suck. Walmart, Home Depot and the other big box stores are partially responsible for the erosion of the American middle class. Don't shop there!!!! (But that is a topic for another forum).

I appreciate the opinions of those who are against putting even one penny into the pockets of the evil Empire of InBev. We have, in the past, certainly made our opinions on the subject clear. But it seems like we are biting our noses off to spite our faces concerning Goose Island.

I have yet to hear one word on this thread disparaging the Halls who could at any time have done what InBev is now doing, that is, making a fantastic beer available enough so that the many who love it don't have to trade for it, or get on a list at a store just to get a bottle or two, or follow delivery trucks around, etc. For whatever reasons they didn't. I guess I can console myself that I can't get any BCS Vanilla because really nice folks decided to keep it rare and difficult to obtain.

Seems we give a pass to craft breweries that keep their beers artificially rare. They may not be an evil Empire controlling shelf space to keep craft out of our hands, but Goose Island's policies have had the same effect of keeping BCS and variants out of our hands. Haven't they?

Pushing Goose Island under the bus in the name of 'Death to the evil Empire' by a boycott would be like pulling one moth out of a spider web in the name of 'death to spiders'.
