Those same people also spend $200 bucks on a bottle off the private seller market. Thats the secret that most will not admit. I have had several whales and some really were amazing and others were a let down.

Tremendously. Probably too much judging by my belly...

You realize taste is 100% subjective, right?

Not surprised to see you have three reviews minus rDev for every one positive.

Like many BAs, I tend to find redeeming qualities in almost every beer. All our opinions are all equally valid. Actually, if we applied a democratic approach to your reviews, your immense deviation from average would call into question your ability to discern quality.

I sure do. So much so, that limiting myself to whales seems silly.

Yeah read the whole thread. I don't do this and yes that would be silly

So because I don't factor hype in or look at rating before I have a beer I can't deferment quality? Haha. Ok. When every thing you've rated in above average you don't even have a reference point. Most of this site rates high. Look how long it takes to get To a IPA below 3.0. Have a good day.

Man, that's hilarious. You're the one who said someone who rates too highly can't determine quality. All I did was turn your own ridiculous elitist "point" around on you.

I said if we applied a purely democratic stance. I have no doubt you can determine what qualities you like in a beer.

    Maybe you're a harsh critic, maybe you're a contrarian, maybe you're a pessimist. I don't really care.

I always forget how much headier it is to underrate something than it is to overrate. My mistake

I drink a few 'whales' to my standards (kbs, backwoods, Hopslam, biscotti and donut) but I am lucky to live where we can get quality beers year round... I want an ipa, I can get fresh two hearted or citra pale ale, I want a sour I have jolly pumpkin.

This year when everyone was looking for KBS, I was able to get a hell of a beer in bourbon barrel citra. Next years whales are this years sleepers, so drink the stuff you have available.

It's become harder as I enjoy the upper-shelf beers of VT (Alchemist, Hill Farmstead, Lawson's)...,.but I gotta keep the 'basic stuff' around to avoid drinking the exceptional....
