In case you missed all the drama, here's a great thread: http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/el-cajon-brewing-company-chapter-11.45577/.

As I drove by this morning, they finally have taken down the old El Cajon Brewing Company sign and are interviewing people for jobs next week. Urbn St. Brewing Co. seems to enjoy a good reputation locally at their other locations and I'm looking forward to trying them out when they open.

sounds like they are making progress. i had to go to the county recorder earlier this week, and the ECBC sign was still up. they were supposed to open in april, then it was definitely by second week of may, so it's anyone's guess at this point...

Should hopefully be open soon...I live walking distance (thank God) and am looking forward to heading over there. Had a chance to sample a few of their beers already and they've all been top-notch.

Welcome to the forum. Any affiliation with Urbn St Brewing Co?

Though it sure seems to ring some alarm bells, the primary characters involved with Urban aren't the shilling type. On the other hand, an excited kitchen worker sure wouldn't be above doing that. But I'll bet on this being authentic - if you lived in El Cajon, you'd definitely understand the excitement. They have not been treated well on a local level by the beer gods (though Alpine is probably only a 15 minute drive from there).

Sorry, been a while since I checked here.

Yeah, as an El Cajon resident, I miss having the excitement of a brewery in town. When El Cajon Brewing closed down it made me pretty sad. Cue the joy I felt when I found out that URBN was not only coming in, but who was involved in it (Callaway Ryan from Stone - previously with Surly). My only connection (full disclosure) is that I'm working on making some artwork for their labels when they go to can, which will be in the distant future once the restaurant gets up & running. I've got no stake in the company on a personal level though. I want them to do well because I want El Cajon on the map.

All of that said, their beers that I've had have been AWESOME. I wouldn't have had a chance to try them if it weren't for me working on their art though...one of the owners wanted me to have a taste to inspire my work. Wishing I had included a growler-fill clause in my freelance artwork contract! lol

BTW...I'm a novice when it comes to quality beer, though thanks to a friend who buys nothing but the best, I've been trying out some top-notch stuff lately. I'm learning as I go.

Went there on Saturday. Brown beer was great as was La folie. The pizza while a little pricey was great as usual. Still a bunch of trash in the back of the building and the menu said it was during a soft opening. In my opinion they have the best pizza I have ever tried ( been to the other locations often ) and are super laid back and friendly. I will probably still continue to go to the one on University instead but my expierience was great.

The brown beer was that good?? It was tart, too?

Not at all tart for my taste but I was expecting little and thought it was excellent. My expectations were low for a start up but brown ales is all I drank for the first few years of my entry into craft and I still enjoy a good one. It was unique.
