Cant tell you how completely jealous i am of you. As a person who tried like heck this year to track down one bottle and couldnt...then tried to track down a tap site to taste and still couldnt get KBS....i cant comprehend you tasting 4 vintages in one day....Thanks for the reviews though. very interesting reads.

Someday i know i will eventually have a KBS....

@London_Gent I hope you are able to get one in the near future! There's plenty of stuff in your side of the pond we envy as well!!

@OrangeMen dude, you have great distro in NY. All you need is to trade for it. I don't have it easily available either, always trade (founders has no WA distro). KBS is not a hard one to land trading. Best of luck!

New American Pale Wheat Ale Sunday

Greetings, NBSers! Steamy day in the greater St. Louis region. Our music team was scheduled off from church today so the bride and I took the opportunity to have an easy morning, followed by finishing up our outdoor chores. After a light lunch, we're home relaxing and getting ready for the week ahead.

Picked up a sixer of this a couple of weeks ago - solid summer beer from 4 Hands, that will see some time in the rotation this year:

    Greetings NBS participants and viewers,
And many thanks to our hostess today, the effort is greatly appreciated.
Rain and more rain here in SCMN, but that is okay and necessary.
Planning a trip out east this week and hoping to score some beers I normally can obtain in these parts. Looking forward to the whole trip, but especially that.
Today's addition to NBS is a beer that has been around for longer than I have been on BA, but for some reason never got around to. Too bad I waited so long, as I should have known, that it is an outstanding version of style.

HI everyone. I am little disappointed. We got to Ithaca Beer and their flight was cancelled due to kicking the kegs. SO there was a bit of the Lucifer's Steps left and I had a glass of that.

It was light on malt with a trace of salt in the drink and a mineral quality overall. The dry hopping on this beer is lovely and floral. Very fragrant. A bit of woodiness a bit of something faintly herbal. The beer was refreshing and dry although a touch of malt lied underneath. Light in color, cloudy and yellow and there was no head when they brought it. Slightly off white foam though and no real lace. It's pink salt they use in this goze . I asked the server if this was a goze and he said it was a hybrid or a blend of styles but did not say which ones. (my french fries were burned and soggy - just sayin') OK back to the beer. The hops in this one are pacific gem and northern brewer. They gave a great combination of floral and perfume but no real fruit. It had a just a mild nip from bitterness. The salt is the surprise in this beer as it is my first goze ( or hybrid) a soft and gentle mouthfeel with practically no malt sweetness. It was my favorite part of the beer. The fact that the malt was not too sweet nor was it too breaddy made it elusive and quite the treat as it laid itself out softly and with only a wheat like strength. Not really sour but only mildy tart. Slightly sparkling carbonation. I would describe the hops as aa bit of something sweet and green.. Just a fruity like quality that was delightful and light. Dry finish and the salt became more prominent as it drank. The pink salt is especially gentle and I think that is the reason I liked this beer so much.

I came home with a bottle of sixteen. The second beer in the pics is flower power which is always delightful on tap. This time it was piney and very bitter with prominent grapefruit. (as per usual)

    This is the "gose"

I was under the impression that some KBS (and Devil Dancer, currently) did get shipped to the UK (and Australia, etc.), but minimal amounts of bottles, mostly kegs. So don't give up hope! :stuck_out_tongue: I'd also recommend contacting them, they're really good about answering fans online in my experience and encourage it.

I think I'll be having my first Storm King tonight after work  Cheers NBS

Reminds me of the less attractive sister of Bigfoot. Same sexy body and perfume but once you get to know her, while she's still cute and smart, just not as sexy as her sister.
The date is early tho, so hoping she opens up and shows me her ****ty side.

    NEW IMPERIAL STOUT SUNDAY

Back from a nice time enjoying the incredible weather. We can't pedal as far with the poor little guy cooped up in the trailer, still a good time though. I tried a pretty wretched barrel aged barleywine from these guys a couple of weeks ago. I wasn't very excited to open up the barrel aged imperial coffee stout. This was at least okay though. Forgot a pic but oh well, this one isn't very photogenic.

    New Beer Style Sunday

Hello NBS! Today I sit with a satisfying haul, with my most disparate trade ever of 6:1 for Veruca Snozzberry Gose from Funky Buddha, but the wonderful trading partner who took me up on my Jester King Sour Set for the Snozzberry included many other fantastic goodies in the box, including today's Cigar City Ghost Stories Braggot. The Veruca Snozzberry, which I'm dying to try, will sit aside until the Green Man Snozzberry arrives later this week, and then will be enjoyed alongside Block 15 Snozzberry and a Great South Bay Snozberry Stout I received as an extra a few months back. Yes, a Snozzberry tasting. Will be exciting. But for now, I open up the Ghost Stories:

My Skyscraper photos are becoming something of a trademark by now, and I was recognized at Jester King last weekend as "The Skyscraper guy!" Placing my beers precariously on a ledge will never feel completely safe, but the photo quality is always so exceptional I can't really resist.

So what did I think of the Ghost Stories? It was nice. Braggot is an interesting style for sure. Something tells me they aren't always this dark, and I would like to try a lighter take on it. Obviously loads of honey, chocolate and tea and oak all played a big role in the flavor profile here too. The mouthfeel is a bit disjointed, I'd like it a lot thicker with lower carbonation I think, but a solid beer. Full review is here: http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/17981/88888/?ba=WTKeene

I'll see you all next week, NBS!

Your review is very similar to mine. They need to take the big, bold "BOURBON" off the label. I agree on the barleywine too. Not good at all. Pissed off about paying $15 for 4 of those things. Stange thing is I really enjoy their Bourbon Barrel Ale. It has a nice suttle vanilla, bourbon taste. I am puzzled by their other offerings though.

Well , I think it'll age fine. Hard to top how Bigfoot ages (Poerty in Moten, if you get the reference) but it'll do just fine. Just stinks that for the price of two you can get a four pack of Bigfoot.

Wow have I got a beauty for NBS!

Double Dry Hopped Fort Point Pale Ale from Trillium in Boston.

My mind is officially blown. If you haven't had the opportunity to sample anything from Trillium then you are missing out. Haven't a bad brew from them yet.

    Cheers all!

I'm pretty shocked Ithaca Brewery would be serving their beers in pint glasses. Thats just sad. Did you happen to notice if they had other glassware?

I grabbed a copy of that at a used book sale at our local library a few years ago. When I opened it, a copy of an interview with the author, from his hometown newspaper no less, fell out. Plus, whoever had owned the book, had had it signed by the author. I was, doubtlessly, stunned. Great read, I recommend it highly!

Those are the only glasses Ithaca ever has. Smaller ones and bigger ones but they are the same. Kicked the kegs? "We don't have a whole lot to offer today." ( I am not really bitchy right I mean you only had one keg?)
