I am a big fan of good pilseners. One of my summer projects is to make sure I've tried all such brews created by local breweries. I'm looking for help compiling a list. Which breweries in the OC, LA, IE, or SD areas make pilseners? Is it a seasonal/occasional release, or a standard at the brewery? Are there any that are especially good?

Here are those that I've tried or am aware of, off the top of my head (no particular order).

    Los Angeles Area

Smog City Little Bo Pils (standard)
Smog City Hop Rocket Citra Pils (I think this may have been a one time thing, but it was fantastic)

    Orange County

Noble Ale Works Pistol Whip'd (standard)

    Bootlegger's Pilsener (occasional)

    San Diego

    Lightning Brewery Elemental Pilsener (standard)

    Coronado Golden (standard)

    Green Flash East Village Pilsener

Alpine use to make Emerson... an "Imperial" pils which I think is a stupid style, but it was only 6% ABV which isn't really that Imperial to me, so I'm a fan of it. Anyone know if they've made it recently??

Definitely not a pilsner. But a great beer.

    Isn't it an imperial pilsner?

Since Imperial Pilsner and India Pale Lager terms are still being defined, I guess you could make that argument. But in the end, it doesn't taste reminiscent of a pilsner, except for subtle yeast notes. More of an IPA with a lager yeast profile.

I was under the impression that OP was looking for more classical examples of German/Czech pils. Not mashup styles.

Yes, I am looking for German or Czech pilseners, not imperial ones. I'm not utterly opposed to that style, but it's a different beast to me.

Thanks for the help so far, all!

Wait, so all pilsners don't taste like that? Lol. Well nevermind then. I second unknownkoger, can't really go wrong with Beachwood.

Beachwood will have both their pilseners on again for their anniversary on July 5th (among many other amazing beers)

Barrel Harbor in Vista has a Pils. I sort of recall the brewer saying he thought it was his best beer.
