Best thread ever, IMO. If I didn't have to be up so damned early I'd be rushing out the door to buy a french press and coconut right now and adding it to one of the stouts I have sitting around. Thanks for the inspiration!

Now I'm thinking I'm going to try tossing part of a cinnamon stick in a bottle... I'll report back with how it works out when I get around to doing it

I guess you could probably do an extra dry hopping to some big IPA's doing this same sort of thing with dry whole hops.

Just bought some Elijah Craig 12 year old Bourbon. About to try your 1/2 oz. into a Founders IS. Will report back after completion:rolling_eyes:

Not added anything to BCBS as I don't have very many but I did add toasted coconut to a Central Water BA stout a while back and it was really good. I drank my bottle of Prop while watching the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ceremony on Saturday night and it was the best thing I've ever had.

I do have some vanilla beans so I was thinking of doing that experiment soon. How much should I use? I don't have a bottle capper. Any other good way to do it?

    Just recommendation:
Always use fresh coconut. The stuff you buy pre shredded always has a bunch of artificial additives in it and anti caking agents. I've done this with both BCBS and KBS and while it produces similar results, it isn't on par with Proprietors in my opinion.

I do Habanero with cilantro in my IPA's all the time in my Randall Jr.... Love it!

toasted some coconut and cocao nibs this weekend and french pressed it for an hour with quarter of a vanilla bean and it was very very amazing. needless to say im trading my props now. also soaked 3 high quality vanilla beans in 2 cups of bourbon for 3 weeks and then added a teaspoon to bourbon counties and it was like fresh bourbon county vanilla

buy your shredded coconut from whole foods and you wont get any of the artificial stuff? and while it may not be on "par" with proprietors, my toasted coconut and cocao bcbs french press very very much like prop without a rye finish. and i have consumed 11 bottles of proprietors and had it on tap twice, so i am very familiar with it.

I wanted to have a "Bomb-Light" last night so I added a couple of drops of hot sauce to a cheap porter.

Let me tell you, it transformed that porter into a garbage dump

In all honesty I guess I'm not a 'mix-em-up" kinda guy. Didn't think the bourbon added anything to the Founders IS. I think keep Founders IS separate from my stock of BCBS which (IMO) is "one of a kind" i.e.: Enjoy each on it's own.

I think I'll try a Founders IS with habanero, toasted coconut, AND bourbon soaked oak cubes! *maniacal laughter*

Over the weekend I dunked Oreos in some BCBS. The dunked cookies were stupid good!

Don't crush up Oreos and add it to BCBS though. You get no added flavor as the bourbon overpowers everything the cookie brings.

I highly recommend skipping the milk and going for the BCBS for your Oreo dunking delight!

My tasting group French Presses beer every week at our weekly tasting. Probably the two that stick out most to me from those tastings were a Fathead's Head Hunter pressed with Serrano pepper and Cilantro and BCBS pressed with toasted coconut. And I will concur with those saying that the french press toasted coconut BCBS was as good as Proprietor's was.

Worst press we ever did? That was probably a Fuller's London Porter with Star Anise. It smelled like burnt pepperoni pizza. Woof!

I thought I would share our coffee press adventure from last night!

We had Even More Jesus pressed with cinnamon sticks, cacao nibs, ancho chilis, and vanilla beans. Anyone care to guess what the inspiration was? ; )

I did not take a picture, but we also pressed Bell's Oberon with lemon and raspberry. Here are the after pics:

The Oberon took on a neat pink tinge, but the beer is a little too spicy to take on fruit very well. No one really took a shine to this one. And the "remnants" of fruit were not that great spooned out of the press either!

Our bootleg Hunahpu on the other hand, WOW! This was a really good beer and really did remind me of Hunahpu! The ancho chilis added a lot of character. Hunahpu gets a little more "Cinnamon Toast Crunch"-y, where ours was lacking a little in that regard, but the cinnamon was still there! Even More Jesus was a really good base beer for this one. This was one of our best presses to date! Cheers!

So I bough a couple packs of brand stout and going to mess around with my own variants of them. For sure right now I have in mind a coconut mint vanilla variant as well as some form of chili not sure which yet but I cannot wait! What have you guys done successfully?!

Hmmm...I've done this with Ipswich Oatmeal Stout and Toasted coconut and the reulsts were unbelievably awesome. Perhaps I should try the same with BCBS.

    Thanks for the idea!
