I'm super excited to travel into CO next week for a beercation with friends. We will be in Fort Collins on the 4th and 5th, then through Longmont to Boulder for a day or so, then to Denver for a couple of days. We have a solid list of breweries that we'll be hitting; however, I thought I'd reach out here and ask if there are any specific happenings to make sure I'm aware of either to get to or stay away from in the area between 6/4 and 6/8?

Also, I intend to send myself a couple of boxes of goodies that I can't get here in Minnesota. Anybody know where I can find the nice shipping boxes in one of those cities? I'm imagining the 12-bottle, styrofoam inside boxes, but I'm open to better ideas if they are worthwhile. Mostly, I'm just looking for where I can reliably find some.

    Cheers peeps!

If you know where you're going to be just send yourself some of the shippers from u-haul. they only take 3-4 days to get there.

Don't forget we have amazing scenery here as well! Don't miss the mountains.

Wha? Scenery? Who has time for that!? :grimacing:

I thought about that, but I'm not going to be in the same spot long enough to guarantee I'd be there when it arrives without adding a ton of expense. Any thoughts on places in Denver that have the shippers? I don't mind buying them, but I don't even know where to start looking.

Thanks again everyone! I leave on Wednesday and I'm stoked!

Forgot about this, but Avery (in Boulder) is having a festival on Saturday and the brewery will be closed for regular business. Might want to keep that in mind with your planning. Have a great time!

Thanks! We're also coming in (from Chicago) at the end of the week. Spending two weeks in the Denver/Fort Collins area...

I've read on the mountain forum in the past that the Argonaut sells shippers but you have to ask for them. Cannot confirm that though. Worth giving them a call and let us know.

Thank you! I called Argonaut and they do sell 12-bottle wine shippers for $21.99; however, they have zero in stock and the woman I spoke with wasn't aware when they'd have stock. That said, I found this site: http://www.primovino.net/12bottle750mlstyrofoamshipper.aspx that sells them for $10. I called and spoke with a really nice guy who said that they do sell them primary to their wine customers. He said he's willing to sell me three of them (that's how many I asked for) but that he'd charge me a surcharge since I'm not buying wine. I'm fine with that and even with the surcharge, the boxes are likely to be cheaper than Argonaut. NOTE: He doesn't keep them on-site, so it helps to call him and tell him how many you need in advance so that he can bring them to the shop.

Whoa! $10 for a 12 shipper? That's a helluva deal. Thanks for all the info. Enjoy your time in CO, this place is pretty neat.

Don't miss Falling Rock & Crooked Stave in Denver. Backcountry Pizza & Avery in Boulder. Equinox, Funkwerks & Odelll in FoCo. Avery Sourfest is this weekend so they'll be closed on Saturday maybe even Friday to prep. If tickets magically fall into your lap it's a must go.

Thanks again all! We are in Fort Collins on Wednesday and will hit Odell, Black Bottle Brewery, Mayor of Old Town, Funkwerks, and New Belgium for sure. Thursday morning we head to Boulder--by way of Longmont and Oskar Blues, natch--where we will hit Avery and Backcountry Pizza for certain. I'm also going to get some bicycling in while in Boulder.

Friday, we head to Denver for two days. Crooked Stave, Falling Rock Taphouse, Freshcraft, Star Bar, and possibly Great Divide. I would have loved to get Sourfest tickets, but they sold out before I knew the travel dates, and my buddies aren't as into sours as I am, which would have sucked for them.

I'm super stoked to go. I cannot wait to be in the mountains, get some freshish air, and decompress from daily life for a few days. I'll keep checking this thread in case anything else is shared.

Oooh...I'm back and now feature even more questions!

Anyone have great bottleshop suggestions in Fort Collins, on or near Arapahoe Ave in Boulder, or in the general vicinity of Blake St. in Denver? I want to send myself some good brews that I can't get here in Minnesota.

In Fort Collins, I'd probably do Wilbur's. Biggest store with biggest selection, though things sell fast there.

Supermarket Liquors has a great selection and things can sit a little longer there, depending on the beer of course (a highly sought after beer, like Parabola, is going to sell out fast there like it will any other place).

287 Liquors is a bit out of the way on the south end of town, has a very nice selection too.

Your visit to Fort Collins will be woefully incomplete without lunch at Choice City.

Go see Scott at Mr B's. One of the best beer guys in town.

Popular destination this weekend--we are also headed to CO from Chicago this weekend and plan to hit up Denver, Boulder, and Ft. Collins. Someone should warn the locals about the incoming stampede of Midwesterners on the hunt for good beer :wink:Thanks for all the recommendations in this thread so far!

Oh we're used to it...half the people living out here are midwest transplants (says this midwest transplant...but after living here 10 years, I feel like I can say "we" now when referring to Colorado :grinning:)!
