I've found that even if you're not sending growlers but just bottles that aren't waxed, taping down the top is immensely important. I've never had a bottle break, but I've had 2 leak from the cap coming loose. Now I tape down every cap, bubble wrap, and bag each bottle separately. When you're sending beer, it's always best to error on the side of caution.

I haven't taped but I bag most everything after tightly wrapping all around with bubble wrap - ziplocs for smaller bottles and cans, and trash bags or grocery bags for the larger stuff. Do a second garbage bag for the whole box which I put in another box. Key for me is to have multiple backups.

^^^ This guy did one of the best packing jobs I've ever seen in the box he sent me... No way was anything leaking from that box...

For bottle caps I first take a piece of cling wrap (about 4" square) and place that over the cap and down around the neck of the bottle. I then take black electrical tape and do several tight wraps around the cap and neck making sure that the tape stays over the plastic wrap. This keeps the sticky glue off the glass. I then fold over the last bit of the tape so that there is a tab for the person to get ahold of. Makes removing the tape easier.

Yeah I taped all of mine with a little "easy removal" tab, then ziploc bagged each one, bubble wrapped just with scotch tape, padded the box bottle and put everything else in a heavy duty garbage bag in a box. Then put THAT box in another padded one with another garbage bag. I wanted all the bottles vertical (and put the high $$ ones in the middle) but had to pack one box laying down because the bombers didn't fit vertically in the boxes I used.

I was paranoid because I know someone who had a box get all the way across country, then get sent back due to leakage.

Thanks, so this sounds similar to what I did with my bottles. And sounds much more reasonable and doable than what I was imagining.

That seems like a good idea too, although now I have a stash of some high-tech vinyl electric tape that I searched around for just for bottle cap wrapping, I assume it leaves less sticky residue?

Sorry I didn't mention the awesome packing job, the packaging was almost as impressive as the beer. Also my target better get ready for his "Sam Summer" due to arrive sometime today.

@heystevec No worries on the Double Duckpin I get to Baltimore quite often for work and will try to hit it up next time I am through. Besides you dropped more than enough beer to keep me busy a while!

Yea that shore issue was suppoesed to throw people off a bit but I didnt expect it to throw people off that much. I actually should have left it to throw a wrench in peoples guesses.

Add me to the list of people who would feel an empty void deep inside if this BIF ended and we all just walked away... I too need time, if not just for my wallet for the incessant bitching about this mountain off beer I am collecting "just to send away", but would totally be down for another round.

Yea the wife is in the same boat. We recently bought a new fridge for the kitchen and moved the previous into the garage for the fresh stuff...I also have a smaller fridge in the basement with the limited fresh stuff (mostly stuff out of distro in Ohio that I trade for and don't want friends/mother in law to consume without me of course). Finally the cellar in the unfinished part of our basement has two racks going full of 300+ ageables in a dark corner. I am glad to head I am not the only one in this thread with this sort of "problem".

I also tried to find a growler of Double Duckpin. Great minds....

If needed, I would (partially) run the match ups and notifications for next round.

I'd be in for something like that, though I do have so much beer at the moment to drink. Yet I keep buying beer at the same time. Makes perfect sense.

I liked @Lehighace06 's tracking number idea, so I'm going to steal it. Except only my target will be able to solve this one (sorry everyone else).

There are three boxes and each one has a unique tracking number. They are all fedex, and thus have the same seven digits at the beginning (7701701), so you will only have to find the last five digits of each package.

    Box 1:
    - contains one of each digit from 1 to 5
    - the first digit also occurs twice in your zip code
    - the second and third digits are already in place, if you wrote all the possible digits from the first clue in order
    - the fourth digit is smaller than the fifth

    Box 2:
    - the first and last digits are the same, and match the first digit of your zip code
    - add one to that digit and you have the second digit. add one again and you have the fourth digit
    - the middle digit is also the first digit of your suite number

    Box 3:
    - x,y,_,x,y where x,y = the two-digit number that ends your street number
    - the sum of the first and last digits of your street number is the middle digit
