    semi-official press release:

SIXPOINT BREWERY DEBUTS "RAD" SUMMER BREW

MAD SCIENTISTS’ ORIGINAL WHEAT ALE/CITRUS JUICE MASH-UP IS

    THE ULTIMATE SUMMER CRUSHER

JUNE 4, 2014, BROOKLYN, NYC, USA, WESTERN HEMISPHERE, PLANET EARTH, MILKY WAY -- Brooklyn-based Sixpoint Brewery today announced the release of the "RAD" -- a 3.2% ABV 16-ounce canned offering that features a German-style wheat ale base and a proprietary blend of different citrus juices. A touch of extra carbonation yields an amazingly refreshing Sixpoint "Cycliquid".

The "RAD" harkens back to the early 20th century when, in 1922, Franz Xaver Kugler, owner of the Kugleralm Biergarten outside of Munich, GER, was faced with a dilemma. His grandfather had arranged for a bicycle path from Munich to cut through the woods and go right past his tavern. Cycling was newly popular and it made the Kugleralm an ideal stop after a long day’s ride. One day, over 13,000 cyclists took to the route. As parched riders kept pouring over the hills and into the biergarten, the beer supply at the tavern was soon at risk.

Rather than turn away thirsty customers due to a lack of libation, Franz extended his supply by blending his beer with lemon soda and called it a Radlermass (cyclist’s liter). He told them it would quench their thirst and they wouldn't fall off their bicycles on the ride home. His "radler", as it came to be called, proved an instant success and took root all over Germany and is still a crowd favorite in the summer heat to this day.

The Sixpoint RAD is a reimagining of the Radlermass using a blend of juices instead of lemon soda to create a something truly unique.

“There aren’t many craft breweries trying this with real juice,” explains Sixpoint founder Shane Welch. “When you see all the complications inherent in the process, it’s not hard to see why. You’ve got to begin with the right base beer, balance acidity and sweetness, and pack a ton of flavor into a tiny ABV. Simply put, creating a craft radler is not as simple as Beer + Juice = Totally Radical. But for RAD, the juice was worth the squeeze."

Sixpoint is once again totally AMPED to be pushing the boundaries with their beer/fruit juice hybrid. Expect more from the Mad Scientists.

"This is not a lemonade beer - this is a session sour!" Welch proclaimed. "The Mad Scientists have struck again!"

Wish I could give multiple multiple, "likes," for the Cru Jones reference. Lol...

I'll definitely give this a try when it gets down my way. One of my local stores has it listed as part of this weeks deliveries, so perhaps I'll be able to try it more sooner than later too.

Its not what you probably expect - its a sour MFer.

Some previous posters had already written this off as a weak "lemonade beer" or "lemon soda beer" - couldn't be further from the truth. This will be like nothing you have tasted....

Saw some at a distributor by me yesterday but was reluctant to pull the trigger.

Think I might have to stop back in tomorrow and give this its day in court.

Before we have dozens of replies like "Is this going to be in Ohio" or "When does this hit Vermont" or "Is Florida getting it?" simply please note that every wholesaler will get at least a pallet of cases. If we have distribution in your area, that wholesaler will get some product.

    Sounds good Sixpoint!

Definitely willing to give this a shot after this description. If I see it at my liquor store this week I'll definitely grab it.. I'll need a 3.2% beer for this Saturday (day).

Cru Jones should endorse this beer.

Your going against BA tradition your only allowed to brew whalez.

and as long as we are making obscure reference.....

I'm all for revitalizing forgotten styles but it seems like there are a bunch of new citrus juice/beer blends this summer. They all just taste like juice and fuck up my stomach.

    I'll still buy this.

Wow, never thought of it that way, but yes, its definitely very much like a Gose + citrus (minus the salt of course) :-)

Yup, its light in ABV enough to be a lawnmower beer. Although we don't advocate riding, operating, or driving a lawnmower while drinking (for the record) :-)

    You'd be surprised....

"you can put it into my mash, but either way just gimme gimme gimme"

This one is more like a Radler on (citric) acid. :-)

    Dude, the colors!

so the juice doesn't ferment out? that's pretty cool i guess.

depending on the juice blend it could be pretty nice.
