Bell's Hopslam is one of my favorites too, but it's different (hoppier and less balanced) than Two Hearted, which is why I didn't originally recommend it. You should just try lots of different stuff!!

Haven't seen Lagunitas Sucks mentioned yet. It's technically a DIPA but very good.

Others you should be able to get:

    Founders Centennial
    Founders All Day
    Stone Enjoy By
    Bell Two Hearted

    IPAs/DIPAs I've enjoyed:
    • Another One - Maine Beer Company
    • Head Hunter - Fat Heads
    • White Rajah - The Brew Kettle
    • Sucks - Lagunitas
    • Centennial - Founders
    • Hop Devil - Victory
    • Sculpin - Ballast Point
    • Big Eye - Ballast Point
    • Mystic Mama - Jackie O's
    • Bengali - Sixpoint
    • Hop Juju - Fat Heads

    • Fresh Squeezed - Deschutes
    • Pliny the Elder - Russian River
    • Ruination - Stone
    • IPA - Stone
    • Blazing World - Modern Times (even though it's an Amber Ale, it's as hoppy as an IPA)

Is the "Check In" how you rate a particular beer?

Thanks for such a great list! I think my new found love of IPAs was just the tip of the iceberg. There are so many out there that I've never even heard of. I have had the Centennial and really liked that. As well as Big Eye.

Yep, just search for it, hit check in, and rank it on a scale of 1-5. You can also comment on "friend's" or your own checkins. And post pictures if you feel like it. There's also a program (the name slips my mind) where you can download your ratings.

And rating seem easier on a mobile device, if you want to look stuff up (either research or to see how you've ranked stuff) I think it's easier to just use the website.

I love Centennial hops, Big Eye I believe is an all Centennial hopped IPA.

    Sculpin IPA
    Stone IPA
    Hop nosh IPA
    Rebel IPA
    Union Jack IPA
My advice is try a different IPA every week and don't let the extreme beer snobs on here influence you.

Big eye is like the red headed stepchild of ballast point, not talked about enough but in some ways better than sculpin.i love it and when it comes down to it 10 bucks vs 15 bucks and big eye wins almost every time

Being a Bend boy, I am always a fan of Deschutes.

Fresh Squeezed is one of my favorite IPAs now.
    Inversion IPA is good too.
Hop Trip is a great part of the Bond Street Series
If you like Cascadian style (Black IPA) then Hop In The Dark is great.
A new one (collaboration) by a local brewer that does not bottle and Widmer Bros. called Blacklight IPA is quite good as well.

A few other local guys that I enjoy:
10 Barrel Brewing - Apocalypse IPA
Bend Brewing - Hop Head Imperial IPA

And then I go for Stone Best By series, and enjoyed their RuinTen quite a bit
Rogue Brewery makes several, but their 7 Hop is amazing.
DFH 90Min and 120Min (just got to try it for the first time tonight) are amazing
Pliney the Elder is always solid as well

Support Arizona breweries. look for Dragoon IPA, Arizona Wilderness anything, Fate, Lumberyard, Four Peaks, San Tan, etc etc. My two favorites in AZ are Dragoon and Arizona Wilderness. My other regulars when I lived in AZ were Sculpin and Odell. Also just to reiterate fresh really is important.

This statement might seem goofy at first if you are new to IPAs, but it's so true, trust us.

I haven't seen Deschutes Red Chair mentioned...it's a seasonal, but there may be some still floating around.

Great Lakes here in Ohio has a few worth recommending...Commodore Perry IPA and Lake Erie Monster IIPA are both delicious as is Rye of the Tiger, Great Lakes' Rye IPA offering.

    Hope this helps!

OP, you mentioned Hopslam. Now you've ventured into double IPA's, which is a whole other ball game. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but you've now opened up an entire other category to explore. It's a very slippery slope!

Getting back to IPA's I'll throw out one of my favorites that nobody has mentioned: Surly Furious.

That sounds like sound advice! I'm sure it would be very easy to overwhelm a beginner such as me. I was wondering after poking around....what makes a red IPA 'red' and a black IPA 'black'? I had a black IPA a couple weeks ago, but cannot remember which one I had. I thought it was less hoppy than any other IPA I've had.

I've been wanting to try Wilderness for weeks now. It is now on my 'next to do' list! I went for bagels one morning and peeked inside and looked it up as soon as I got home. There is tons of buzz about it now and I can't wait to try their beer. Four Peaks was the first craft beer I ever had and will always be special. I haven't tried Dragoon, but will put it on my list.

I'll echo a few simply because they fly under the radar on this site and are easily overlooked.
Deviant dales. Amazing american ipa, I'll take it over anything russian river puts out.
Ska brewing modus hoperandi. Another solid american ipa, I prefer it to union jack and odell ipa for a piney dank citrus bomb.
Deschutes fresh squeezed. Amazing tropical flavors with minimal bitterness.
Also, try to find a red swingline from trinity brewing in coloradoo springs. It's a wild ale, but is hopped like an ipa and drinks like one as well. Amazing brew.
