Going to be in the area this weekend for the nascar race. Any good breweries or bottle stores to hit up ? I'm from CT and looking for stuff I can't find near me. Any good suggestions?
In the Scranton-WB area check out Sabatini's in Exeter and J&H Beer in wilkes-barre. People will tell you that Georgetown Deli has a nice selection, but they are over priced assholes. Breaker Brewing in Wilkes-Barre has a few nice surprises and is one of the better local breweries.
Actually, since I'm reading this, I do have a question about the area. I'm taking the family up to Great Wolf Lodge this year for Thanksgiving...which means I'll be missing out on Black Friday rush to stores for Bourbon County. Any good bottle shops that you can think of in the Scotrun area?
Barley Creek in Tannersville and Shawnee about Stroudsburg are good bets. And, Elivictus, Kevin and Joe Krugel are very nice folks and let the consumer decide if their prices are fair - given the selection.
Depending on which way you come out and how much time you have you can go through Bethlehem and hit Abe's Cold Beer Shop and Bethlehem Brew Works. I took some extra time going to a Bachelor party in the Pocono's and stopped in to both places.
Mignosi's foodtown in Stroudsburg got some last year. If you want a case try resort beverage (the local inbev distributor) or brewskis.
J&H Beer currently has Bruery Humulus Lager on tap for growler fills. 32oz. is $10.99, 64oz.is $20.99
The Racetrack? The Mount Pocono area is pretty void of dank beer spots, you'd have to venture to Stroudsburg or Scranton to find decent selections, and they are a bout 45 minutes away from the track on a good day, not counting the Race weekend mayhem. And I'll echo @Elivictus on Krugels pricing a attitude. They price common bottles/sixes consistently a few bucks more that other places in the area and flat out **** you, with zero lube for that matter, on rarer-ish selections. As far as attitude, Joe has been nice most of the time I used to give the my hard earned money, but Kevin has been flat out rude 99 percent of the time to the point of actually mocking me once after he tried to prove me wrong on previous pricing at his own store and was proven wrong by his own computer ...... as for the rest of the staff, I wouldn't say they are rude, just high school kids who known zilch about good beer. I live about 5 minutes from them and personally avoid them at all costs.
