Westbrook Mexican Cake

A similar thing did happen right around the time OB released. Cap'n Skoon's had been sitting around for a year--cases of it--then one day it was suddenly all gone. OB seemed extremely unpopular around here (I quite liked it), so I wouldn't have guessed this would happen.

Mantooth, let me know in the future if there's something you'd like me to grab and hold on to for you until you can roll through Columbia.

 

Ale Yeah in Roswell got their shipment in today. Only 1 case and it's fading fast. $12.99/bottle 1 bottle limit.

 

Hopefully there is going to be a lot more westbrook beers since the stone bill passed. I'd love to see a restaurant also.

 

Sounds gr8, thanks! Love to get some OB. I drove to Columbia and got a case of Cap Skoons when it came out - it's the base for MCake (or so I've been told) and I actually prefer it to Cake.

 

Not sure about the base for MC...I'm pretty sure Skoons used a lager yeast, while MC uses an ale yeast. Maybe the malt bill is similar...obviously, others here would be far more knowledgeable on this than I...

 

OB now gone from Earth Fare shelves as well. Conquest Blonde and IPA in the spot(s) where it was.

 

Just came back from the big Conquest event at Green's PG. They have 3 unopened cases and one opened case of Orange Bliss right there by the other Westbrook on the shelf.

 

I do not believe that is an accurate statement.

 

There are two greens in Columbia, right? I think I called the one closest to I77. Guy said they were sold out.

 

Yeah, that's Assembly. Piney Grove is off I-26 (exit 104) and is one of the best beer retailers in town (not to disparage the other fine establishments).

 

@Mantooth and I enjoyed some cake at The Lodge on the south end of Hilton Head Island yesterday. Great times!

The cake is available for growler fills too if anyone can make it down.

 

I had a blast, man - can't wait to do it again. It was my first ip swap.

 

I had one sip of Cake last night and dropped my glass and spilled it all over my carpet, wall, curtains, and fan.

Luckily there was still one drop left in the glass. Lol.

 

Correct. Completely different beers.

Coming to Columbia and Charleston this weekend. What would be the best places to find Gose and Mexican Cake?

 

Gose anywhere. MC not so much. I went to WB last week, and they had nothing. Not even most of there regular beers in stock.

 

Call Laura Alberts in Daniel ISland. Some of the time, they'll have beer there that surprises you, but it's usually marked up pretty high.

 

Speakeasy in Columbia is getting a case of MC tomorrow, but they are a bar, so expect to pay accordingly. I don't know of any of my retailers in Columbia that would have any left. It went super fast this year.
