What is your top 3 Black IPAs?

    I'm really enjoying this style and I'm glad to see it has grown in popularity. Here are my top 3:

    1. SSR from Stone
    2. Dubhe
    3. Wookey Jack

    Oh man. My least favorite category of beer. So you know these will be good:

    1. Deschutes Hop in the Dark. My first craft beer and one of my all-time favorites.
    2. New Glarus Black Top. Very nicely balanced with excellent aroma.
    3. Alchemist Beezlebub. I know, it's techinically an Imperial Stout. But it's dry-hopped like an Imperial IPA. Delicious.

    -Posting in this thread to say that SSR from Stone is the best one I have ever had by far.
    -SN Blindfold wasn't bad
    -Can't say I've had another to mention.

    All I have to say is the new Lagunitas NightTime is amazing.. it might be my fave.. FFF/Surly Blakkr is awesome too.. so is TBK Black Rajah..

    Fresh bottles of Lakefront IBA are solid. Not mind-blowing, but a good example of the "style" if you don't want a too intense experience. Just check the dates. LF sits on shelves for a long time.

    Love NightTime, definitely my new favorite. Wookey Jack is my highest rated.

    Dubhe is also great. Sublimely Self-Righteous, of course.

    And, I sure miss the hell out of Stone Escondidian 15th Anniversary and Victory Yakima Glory.

    1. wookey jack

    by a large margin. fresh wookey jack is so dank and delicious. almost an instant-order for indecisive me when i see it at a bar.

    2. stone/alchemist/ninkasi browner than black. was great.

    3. stone 15th anniversary escondidian imperial black IPA. even better than sublimely self-righteous, which is also awesome.

    gimicky style or not, it's produced several excellent beers.

    Yeah that stuff was awesome.. I wish they'd brew it again..

    I'll also give Arcadia B-Craft Double Black IPA an honorable mention..

    This is a style that I really like.

    1. Odell Mountain Standard. Nothing else that I've had is close IMO. I really wish that this was available all year.
    2. Lagunitas Night Time. New one for me and just passed Wookey Jack on my list.
    3. FW Wookey Jack. Always good but hard to find fresh sometimes.

    Wookie Jack has always been my number one. After trying Lagunitas Nighttime, I'm incredibly impressed. Unita Dubhe is a very solid third.

    Several good options beyond those, and many, many more that are mediocre at best. These are probably my top 3 at the moment.

    Has anyone had Boulevard's Grainstorm Black Rye IPA?
    Picked one up- has wheat and rye and is part of their Smokestack Series. Tried their White IPA this year and it was the only White IPA I've liked, so I expect good things. Nobody has mentioned it, though. Will try it soon.

    My top 3 in order:
    -Odell Mountain Standard
    -FW Wookey Jack
    Top 2 by a lot, IMO.
    -NoDa Midnight Madness

    Uinta Dubhe is good, too. Didn't care for Stone SSR - weird flavor. Lagunitas Nighttime was tasty but not enough roast for me. Tasted like an IPA with a slight dark malt flavor.
