Other than on tap at monks, does Philly get bottles too?

I'm sure you can get it in a smaller glass if you want. I remember the nonic pints in my hand, and that is what they show on their web page. Belgian styles are not in pints.

Doesn't understand rankings system and the importance of how many times Pliny was reviewed when it WAS the best DIPA in the world.

Its not the king anymore. Its just another amazing DIPA on the market full of amazing DIPAs.

This makes me happy, Anti Hero is such an enjoyable beer. Cool that it stood up to some of the other great IPAs you have available.

I'm no way shape or form does Blind pig have more hop aroma/flavor than Pliny. Have you thought that maybe over the years your palate has changed? It happens....

    Cheers!

No older than 3 months? To me -- that dooms the credibility of the results of your IPA comparison session.
if some of the beers in this taste session were 3 months old -- it kinda invalidates the results. I think most people will agree that Pliny and other heavily post boil and dry hopped beers lose their aroma and hop character after a few weeks....by 3 months a totally different beer.

I believe I remembered this wrong. I think I had ordered a Belgian, but remembered it as Pliny as I've had that there as well. Regardless, they serve using pints and wine glasses. I've never seen a tulip being used there.

I had my first Pliny this weekend as the result of a trade. I didn't think it was as good as the ratings. I feel Lunch, HeadyTopper, and Enjoy By are better....at least in my opinion. Who knows....lots of variables play into it. don't get me wrong....it was excellent - just not what I would call 'The Best'. I'll continue to reserve that for Heady Topper and am appreciative that I am usually able to keep a reasonable supply.....

To be fair, your beloved Pliny was 9 days old. As you know, any IPA begins falling off just after the final dry hop (or post boil if no dry hops), so brewer's have to contend with this sliding scale of hops bitterness/freshness when faced with the very real possibility of the 3 tier system. Which means, the beers will sit for a certain period of time in shipping and warehouses before finally reaching a retail store and winding up on the shelf. Some breweries get around this by making their IPA's brewery-only releases (Zombie Dust, etc.) but most go the route of over-hopping their beers and stamping them with an Enjoy By date. The sweet spot most brewers target is about 3 months out, so that was our limit. No beers older than the 3 month mark. Most were much fresher, but some were right at that date from being either shelf turds or overseas imports (IPA's from the UK and elsewhere).

But of course, if we could all drink seventeen IPA's from around the world right out of the bright tank or the hops rocket, we'd all be better people for it, right? So, quit being a prick.

LOL. 3 months. Sink pour time. I think the whole "palate evolving" is the BS of a rationalization. My "palate's been evolving" since visited the UK in '82 and had my first pint of Courage Best Bitter. Drank my way through London and it was the greatest beer on the planet. Still the same stuff, I just don't particularly care for it anymore.

We know what Pliny tastes like. Been drinking it for 5+ years. Still love it when its "on". Question remains, is it possible/worth the effort to get it shipped reliably so that its "on" when it gets here?

Sounds like CAB's last bottle was on. Yay. Might give it another whirl.

So perhaps you could give your experience with uber fresh Pliny versus older Pliny? I mean, you have experienced this to make your comment, right?

I know I notice a difference as it ages in the aroma and more delicate flavors in a beer with so much late addition hops, and my palate is nothing special. How about you?

I have had 2 week old PtE in bottles and I've had it on tap. I will say I enjoyed the tap beer more probably due to freshness since it smelled like I was in a pine forest.

It's even easier to take shots at people who cite the ratings on this site as if they mean something. Especially when the beer in question is one that is not widely distributed or easily obtained.

As far as glassware is concerned, when I went to Russian River in March Pliny and BP were served in pint glasses. Goblets were used for all the Belgian and Sour brews.
