Anchorage Darkest Hour is a fantastic brew. I would highly recommend it if you like that type of beer.

Yes. All porters are technically stouts, but all stouts are not porters.

Sauternes aged Mikkeler "Black" I had on draft at churchkey. I'm ashamed of how much $ the pour was, but it was pretty tasty. First stout I've had aged in a white wine barrel.

I know, it's an old debate. Seems the consensus here is that stouts are simply porters on steroids or they are simply what the brewer wants to call them at the time. I read about the history and difference in a book I've got by Stephen Snyder (I think) that burned that thought into my brain and the reasoning made sense at the time. I know that I enjoy both - the chicken and the egg.

Bumaye was really interesting, worth getting if it's on the shelf.

Sorry in advance, but I can't stand Prairie's Wine Barrel Noir. The intro is harshly sour. I'm a person that loves sour beers, but I won't drink Wine Barrel Noir if I was given it for free.

It blows the doors off the rest of the (underwhelming) Noir series. It is very good. However, 12 oz bottles of Noir selling for $8 is insane.

I was hoping this wasn't the case. Had my Noir last night and will have my Vanilla soon. I'm hoping Vanilla is much better, because the plain was just ok.

I hope you enjoy it, honestly. But I was surprised how let down I was by both, and that was before I saw much of the hype on here. For $3 or $4 they would have been fine, which I guess is the most succinct way I can put it. Bomb! and Wine Barrel are by far the two best Prairie stouts I've had and I wouldn't pay $8 for either of them again.

I haven't had a sour one yet. I've had multiple, from different bottle shops and bars and not a one was sour. I was surprised at how much I liked this beer because coming from a wine barrel...well I just didn't know what to expect. This particular beer gives a dark cherry taste to me.

Ska makes one with malbec grapes. Hibernal Vinifera. It was very interesting and complex. Pretty tasty but not like Prairie's.
